  2. 1. What is HEW? • HEW (High-performance Embedded Workshop) is the integrated development environment compatible with all Renesas microprocessors. HEW allows seamless operations for your MCU developments, from coding and compiling to simulation and debugging. With HEW you no longer need to run separate programs such as editor, compiler, simulator, and emulator software (debugger) for each stage of development. Just run HEW! • The HEW bundles both a compiler package and a debugger, but HEW software itself is not sold separately. The compiler package comprises a compiler and simulator. The debugger is control software for the emulator and comes with all emulator products. • The HEW environment includes the following functions: • Compiler, simulator, and HEW debugger registration and operations • Edit • Build

Initial installation of HEW • Installing the compiler package and debugger on your PC automatically registers the compiler, simulator and debugger in the HEW environment. • Install the compiler package to use the coding, compile and simulation functions. Install the debugger to use the debug functions. Each tool (compiler, simulator, HEW debugger) is automatically registered in the HEW environment when you install the compiler package and debugger on your PC. Installing additional products • When compiler packages and debuggers for other products are installed on your system, they are also automatically registered in the HEW environment as separate compilers, simulators and debuggers. When Compiler Package B and Debugger B are installed to an environment already installed with Compiler Package A and Debugger A, Compiler B, Simulator B, and HEW Debugger B are automatically registered. Installing additional versions of HEW • When a compiler package and debugger containing a new version of the HEW software are installed on your PC, the environment is automatically updated to the new HEW version PC used for development Compiler Package HEW V.3.0 HEW V.3.01.04 INSTALL Compiler Compiler Simulator Update to new version!   6. 5. Comparison of HEW and TM (reference) • Project • TM supports one project. HEW simultaneously supports multiple projects. HEW TM Configuration Workspace Project Project Configuration HEW-supported functions • Workspace allows handling of several projects. • Configuration can hold several option patterns. • Build • TM uses make.exe; HEW executes each build in HEW original analysis.
