  1. 5 Tips to Help Relieve Toothache for Kids

  2. Help Relieve Toothache for Kids • If you’re dealing with a bad toothache, you can identify where the pain is and immediately contact your dentist about it. It’s a different story with kids. When they’re crying due to pain in their mouth, they may not be able to tell you exactly where it’s coming from. • A toothache usually occurs due to decay or erosion. The nerves and blood vessels in the chamber of the tooth become sensitive, which then causes discomfort. • The toothache can be triggered by excessive intake of sugary food and acidic beverages.

  3. Here are Tips to Help Your Children Feel Better if They Have a Toothache:

  4. Rinse With Warm Saltwater • If your child is old enough to rinse their mouth and spit, prepare warm saltwater for them. • Be sure the temperature is right. Saltwater is known as a toothache aid. It helps remove bacteria from the infected area and eases patient discomfort. • You can have your child rinse for two to three times a day. Remember, though, that this is not a substitute to proper brushing or flossing.

  5. Apply A Cold Pack • If there is swelling in the area, use a cold pack to help reduce it. • Apply it against the cheek for a few minutes each time to also help relieve pressure and pain. • If the pain still persists after 24 hours, be sure to contact your dentist.

  6. Continue With Your Oral Hygiene Routine • If your child is apprehensive when it comes to brushing or cleaning their teeth, emphasize that this could also be a potential reason why they’re experiencing a toothache. • Encourage them to still brush their teeth and drink plenty of water to stimulate the flow of saliva in their mouth.

  7. Look Into Over-The-Counter Medications • You may also give your child an OTC pain reliever that is suitable for their age. • Note that this is only a temporary solution for your child’s toothache. • If the medication isn’t doing any help, you need to check with your dentist the next course of action you should take.

  8. Book A Dental Appointment • This is the best way to identify the exact cause of your child’s toothache. Your dentist will be able to examine their tooth and see if there are cavities, erosion, or fractures. • If it’ll be your child’s first visit, your dental team will be careful so as not to make your child feel anxious. • Treatments will only be done once your child is already relaxed and comfortable at the dental chair.
