Monday, August 15, 2011 Please Note: • You should be in your 2nd period class (the one AFTER intervention – reading/LA or math). • Any DONATIONS of school supplies go on the back round table. • Do not get comfortable yet! We’ll have new seating charts soon. • On task? PBS tickets coming your way. • Off task? Get your act together! No shortcuts! Do this NOW: • Get a pencil or pen & piece of notebook paper. • Put your name and date on the paper. • Write a story or letter to Ms. Price using our three values somewhere in the story: Vision, synergy, courage. • If you would not like President Obama to read your paper, I do not want to either. Clean it up and GO BEYOND THE OBVIOUS.

  3. Our Goals Today: • Get organized: • Seating • Binders & spirals • Assignment sheets • Go over our class schedule and your personal schedule. • Check out our class website. What’s cool? • Turn in first day folders & get assigned a locker. Try your combination. • Get all textbooks and workbooks scanned and place labels in them. • Bring your Beyonce’ writing up to standards. • Share your stories.

Stories • Seating will change throughout the year. • Our teammates are resources, and we can be resources for our teammates. • Golden rule: Think before you speak. • Integrity: We do the right thing, even when no one is watching. • Community: We welcome opportunities to learn from one another. • Vision, synergy, and courage: We can’t all do it alone. We’re looking in the same direction, toward the same goal. Have courage to welcome and invite someone new to your group.

Stories • Organization helps us be successful. • I am responsible for my own work. • No work gets thrown away. I can empty it into my portfolio in the file cabinet in the back. • Binder: 5 tabs – R/LA, Math, Sci, SS, Paper. • All four subjects go into this binder. Clip spirals into binder if you can. • Zipper pouch: Pencils/pens, highlighter, colored pencils, etc. Put your name on your stuff. • Assignment pages (for now) – clip into front of the binder. You’ll get an agenda soon. • Put your name on your binder – clearly visible.

Stories • I must keep track of my own schedule. • 1st period = Independent study. Some of us have math, reading, tech, or other classes. • I am responsible for myself, my behavior, and my words. I can be helpful or hurtful during classes and transitions. I represent Team PHM and my own family at all times, in all parts of the building. • R=Thursday. • 1st: Independent study. • 2nd: R/LA or Math. • 3rd: Math or R/LA. • Lunch • 4th: Science or social studies (A days/B days). • Related arts.

Check your rates! $$$! • Etiquette: What would you want your religious leaders (pastor, rabbi, etc.) to read? How about President Obama? • You can be busted for electronic bullying and Ms. Price, Mr. McGuire, and Ms. Huffaker DO NOT TOLERATE ANY MEAN OR RUDE COMMENTS, GESTURES, ACTIONS, OR REFERENCES. • Note: @JTM_PHM stuff will go to everyone! Try emailing Ms. Price w/questions. • What else is there? Reviews, downloadable homeworks (some), some class PowerPoints.

Stories • Your first day folder must be completely finished and submitted to get a locker. • First come, first served within our bank of available lockers. • Your locker and combo are your own responsibility. Do NOT share combos or lockers. • Your locker could be searched at any time by proper officials. • Refer to our locker break schedule for times you’re allowed to be at your locker. • Your locker is a privilege, not a right. Can’t be polite and respectful to those around you while visiting your locker? You lose the privilege of having one.

Stories • Pick up one of each book & workbook. • Open the front cover of all hardback textbooks. Place the pre-printed label on the inside of the front cover under the word “name.” • Turn books over so that the bar codes are facing upward and ready to be scanned. • Place other labels on the inside of the front cover of the workbooks. Extra labels are yours to use. • If you lose a textbook during the year, check classrooms, locker, ask your classmates, check lost & found, and then see Ms. Allen to pay for it and get a new one. Textbooks are also online. • Do not bring any reading/LA textbooks or your science textbook to class unless told to do so.
