  4. 2 D and 3 d Shapes & Formulas • Click on the link. • Area and Perimeter of a Triangle

  5. 2 D and 3 d Shapes & FormulasClick on this linkhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_-cOnzmITo • Squares and rectangles • Perimeter is the distance around a figure. For a rectangle or square, we can find the perimeter using two procedures: • Using addition: (l + l) + (w + w). Add the length and its opposite side. Add the width to its opposite. Find the sum of the lengths and widths. For a square use (s+s+s+s) . • Using multiplication: (l x 2) + (w x 2). Multiply the length by 2. Multiply the width by 2. Find the sum of the products. For a square use 4 s because all the sides are congruent. • Area is the number of square units inside a retangle or square. Area is found by multiplying the length by the widthor side by side in the case of a square. • A = l x w A = s x s

  6. 2 D and 3 d Shapes & Formulas • A trapezoid is a 4-sided flat shape with straight sides that has a pair of opposite sides parallel.

  7. 2 D Shapes and FormulasClick on this linkhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Bl3FlzbIfE • Perimeter of a Trapezoid • The Perimeter is the distance around the edges. • Example: A trapezoid has side length of 5 cm, 12 cm, 4 cm and 15 cm, what is its Perimeter? • Perimeter = 5 cm + 12 cm + 4 cm + 15 cm = 36 cm • Area of a Trapezoid • The Area is the average of the two base lengths times the altitude • A = (a + b) X h • 2

  10. 2 D and 3 d Shapes & Formulas Circumference • The circumference of a circle is the distance around the outside of the circle. It could be called the perimeter of the circle. • How to find the circumference of a circle: • The circumference of a circle can be found by multiplying pi ( π = 3.14 ) by the diameter of the circle. • If you know the radius, the diameter is twice as large.
