2- D Shapes
A quadrilateral is a shape that has 4 sides and 4 angles.
A kite is a quadrilateral that looks like a kite -- with no parallel sides, but with two pairs of equal sides that are adjacent to each other.
A parallelogram is a figure that has four sides and each pair of opposite sides is equal and parallel.
A square is a quadrilateral that has four equal sides and four right angles.
A rectangle is a quadrilateral that has four right angles and each pair of opposite sides is parallel and the same length.
A pentagon is a figure with five sides. If all angles and sides are equal, then it is regular, otherwise it is irregular.
A hexagon is a figure with six sides. If all angles and sides are equal, then it is regular, otherwise it is irregular.
An octagon is a figure with eight sides. If all angles and sides are equal, then it is regular, otherwise it is irregular.
Label each shape.
Which of these shapes are plane figures? polygons? triangles? quadrilaterals?
How many pairs of parallel lines can you find?
