  1. Expectation from the NRG members for Phase II Faith Mwamba Assistant Programmes Officer CUTS Lusaka

  2. Contents • Phase I • Next Phase of CREW Project • Expectations from NRG Team

  3. Phase I • First Phase of the CREW project, which is the diagnostic phasemainly consisted of research on the institutional environment, reform efforts, and market structure of these sectors in Zambia and an assessment of the impact of competition reforms on consumers and producers. • Findings from the research will feed into preparing the Diagnostic Country Report • Once the draft DCR is ready, it will be shared across with NRG members and any other relevant stakeholders to provide inputs, suggestions and recommendations.

  4. Phase I • The principle in CUTS is that any findings from research will not only be tied to the two sectors, but that they can also be useful in other sectors as well

  5. Next Phase of the Project • In the next phase of the project, CUTS will start preparations on developing the toolkit • The findings of the DCR will feed into the toolkit which will be used in assessing competition reforms in developing countries • CUTS will also prepare a framework of competition reforms (FCR) which will give an outline of the project findings from the research which will be shared by the end of July

  6. Expectations from the NRG Members • NRG members are expected to provide input on how the findings from the DCR can be taken forward • We also expect that you will play an active role in any policy level advocacy initiatives for the research findings and garner buy in from all the relevant stakeholders eg. Govt, Regulators and other CSO’s

  7. Expectations from the NRG Members • Country specific NRG meetings will also be held where NRG members will be expected to discuss the FCR. • Inputs and buy in from the NRG members at every stage of the project is critical for this project and it also brings in the aspect of ownership for the NRG members.
