Expectation from GWOP

  • Increased interaction and sharing of regional experiences on adverse effects of climate change, cultural heritage, and political realities must be addressed by establishing a program of cross-disciplinary knowledge exchange program- by specialist group of utilities

  • Management and rehabilitation of existing surface water sources, lakes etc

  • Ground water modeling to ascertain potentials of ground water aquifer to solve the over extraction of ground water especially in developing countries.

  • Existing distribution water supply network analysis to cater for water balancing and GIS mapping

  • Water efficiency and reuse in the context of recycle of wastewater and rain water harvesting

  • Promotion and sharing of research and development of technologies pertaining to drinking water and wastewater

  • Assistance in establishing laws, regulations, and management in developing countries that will make it possible to encourage water companies to operate in those countries without huge margins to accommodate the risks involved.

Expectation from GWOP

  • Promotion of optimal solutions to managing newly identified contaminants through watershed management programs that recognize risk, source control, treatment, and the potential for resource recovery.

  • GWOP should give high priority to smaller, decentralized or isolated communities and should promote partnerships between regions with common problems.

  • GWOP should encourage communities in the wealthier countries to enter into partnerships with communities in poor and developing countries for providing guidance and sharing of knowledge and information and how to manage their water resources.

  • Better channels for communication between producers, consumers, water companies and authorities are needed to develop new and more cost-effective and sustainable methods for water and wastewater treatment by creating a Specialist Group addressing this challenge.

  • There is a growing shortage of experienced talent to meet water needs worldwide. While the deficiencies related to water supply are generally recognized, the increasing age of professionals in this field and the need for new leaders is becoming apparent. GWOP should undertake a program to attract young professionals through meetings and web-based communications.
