  1. Nutrition Nutrition is about eating a healthy and balanced diet. Nutrition is also the key to good mental and physical health. Nutrients like proteins, carbohydrates, fat, vitamins, minerals, fiber etcprovide nourishment for the body..

  2. Importance of Nutrition Good nutrition has a direct impact on your overall health and quality of life. When you follow a healthy diet that consists of fruits, vegetables and whole grains, you aren’t just satisfying your hunger—you’re nourishing your body too.  Here I discuss some reasons why nutrient rich diet is important:

  3. Nutrients Needed and Why ? At the highest level, nutrition can be divided into few top level categories: protein, carbohydrates, fat, and fiber. These all are the important components of a nutrition rich diet which our body needs. Below is a brief explanation of each of the top level categories :

  4. 1. Protein : A protein supplies your body with the necessary amino acids needed to maintain healthy body tissue. While many of the amino acids that your body needs are produced within your body, there are a few that can only be obtained from outside food sources. • Healthy sources : Red meat, fish, and eggs are good sources of essential amino acids, While in plant sources like beans, soy, nuts, and some grains are good options

Carbohydrates : Carbohydrates are necessary for a healthy body, especially for your central nervous system and brain, and protect you against the disease. • Healthy sources : Before you reach for the white bread or pasta, keep in mind that the type of carbohydrateyou eat matters. Some carbohydrate are healthier than others. Opt for whole grains, beans, and fiber-rich vegetables and fruits instead of refined grains and products with added sugar.

  6. 3. Fats Fats often get a bad rap, but recent research has shown that healthy fats are an important part of a diet. Fat helps to balance your blood sugar, decrease your risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes, as well. • Healthy sources : The most famous unsaturated fats are omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. You can find these healthy fats in nuts, seeds, fish, and vegetable oils (like olive, avocado, and flaxseed. Avoid trans fats and limit your intake of saturated animal-based fats like butter, cheese, red meat, and ice cream.

  7. 4. Vitamins Vitamins are vital for warding off disease and staying healthy. There are 13 essential vitamins that the body needs to function properly, including vitamins A, C, B6, and D. Each vitamin plays an important role in the body • Healthy sources : If you eat a varied, well-balanced diet full of vegetables(Broccoli, Kale, Spinach, Peas , Beets, Tomatoes etc) and fruits (Apricots, Apple, Banana, Blackberries, Lemon, Kiwi etc) and have a normal and healthy functioning digestive tract, you likely don’t need to take vitamin supplements.

  8. 5. Water Water is absolutely crucial for every system in your body. Water improves your brain function and mood. It acts a shock absorber and a lubricant in the body. It also helps flush out toxins, carry nutrients to cells, hydrate the body, and prevent constipation. • Healthy sources : You don’t have to chug water to stay hydrated. Fruits and vegetables can also be a great source. Munch on some spinach or watermelon to stay hydrated.

  9. 6. Minerals Vitamins, minerals help support the body. They’re essential for many body functions, including building strong bones and teeth, regulating your metabolism, and staying properly hydrated. Some of the most common minerals are calcium, iron, and zinc. • Healthy sources : The source of Minerals are found in foods like cereals, bread, meat, fish, milk, dairy, nuts, fruit (especially dried fruit) and vegetables.
