  2. Objectives • Identify safety rules and precautions for working in a robotics lab. • Describe safe and unsafe laboratory practices. • Identify safe practices to prevent burns and electrical shock. • Understand safe operating habits for hand tools and machines.

  3. Discussion • Safety is everyone’s concern in a lab situation. • One of the most important factors in safety is your attitude. • Be alert to avoid potential accidents to yourself or others. • Keep a clean and clutter-free workstation. • Always notify the teacher immediately if you are injured.

  4. Hazards • Wear safety glasses at all times while working in the lab with tools, machines and soldering irons. • Remove jewelry and tie hair back while working in the lab. • Turn off circuit power before soldering, testing or troubleshooting a problem.

  5. General Rules • Never cut toward yourself or your hands. • Always use the correct tool for the job. • Sheet metal edges are sharp; use a file to remove them. • Concentrate on what you are doing and do not distract others. • If you are unsure about a step or how to do a task, ask your teacher.
