  1. new Status of the LAV electronics G. Corradi, C. Paglia, D. Tagnani F. Gonnella, M. Raggi INFN LNF Photon Veto WG CERN 13/12/2011

  2. Status of the FEE boards for the LAV • Tools for testing • The LAV to TDC cables • Analog cables • Status of the LAV electronics massive production OUTLINE

  3. The LAV 9U FEE board 1 2 4 Supply voltage ±12V reduced to ±7.5V by onboard voltage regulators 3 4 3

  4. LAV boards connections

  5. Test tools Allows to access ToT mezzanine top and bottom Can control the value of the 4 thr using trimmers Access to analog and digital mezzanine outputs Set using trimmers a common value for the high and low thresholds on all the board channels Allows to operate the boards without the CPU firmware

  6. Connection to TDC Warning: Don’t use any other cable with the LAV FEE and TDCb. The pin assignment will be wrong!! LAV FEE sideSCSI II Warning: If you plan to produce patch panels ask for pin assignmentfirts!! TDCbsideVHDCI VHDCI to SCSI II 1.5m halogen free cable Non standard pin to pin assignment! Produced by Technical Cable Concepts Price 85$ per piece All basic tests are up to now satisfactory

  7. ANTI-A12 analog cable test Due to non halogen free cable used inside the construction of the ANTI-A1-A11 A new cable type is needed for A12 Reflected Signal Amplitude = +80mV Direct Signal Amplitude = -1.252V Cable Impedance Z0 = 44 Ohm Firm already asked for a new cable production

  8. Flange to FEE cable 16 conductors coaxial 50W halogen free cable asked Reflected Signal Amplitude = +104mV Direct Signal Amplitude = -1.272 V Cable Impedance Z0 = 42.5 Ohm Firm already asked for a new cable production

  9. Test of the FEE boards at ±7V The LAV FEE can be operated at ±7V instead of the ±12V, removing the regulators and reprogramming the LAV crate to provide ±7V. This option allow us to save power and to avoid producing regulators Diode protection patch has been developed to substitute the voltage regulators on the board The boards has been successfully operated in the reprogrammed crate at ±7V The current drained by the FEE boards is reduced form 1A to 0.85A with a ~15% power reduction There is no need for main power voltage regulators on board the LAV FEE ! Still have linear regulator on each of the mezzanine to have precise voltage supply

  10. Validation and production status • ToT mezzanine: • Fully validated during laboratory tests • 100 pcs already tested • 1600 pcs already in production • Sums mezzanine: • Validated after minor corrections on 30 prototypes • Production of all 1000 pcs will start before the end of the 2011 • VME 9U mother boards • 5 pcs already produced 3 of which tested and fully equipped • Minor issue identified in the mechanics • Test still ongoing on pulserand CPU sections • CPU and pulse controller mezzanine: • 5 CPU and 5 pulse controller prototypes produced • Functionality still under test

  11. LAV planning for the 2012 runs • Equip 3 full LAV station (ANTI-A1 ANTI-A2 ANTI-A3) • 15 LAV FEE boards fully equipped (240 ToT mezzanine) • If CPU mezzanine shows no problems • Can have a alpha release firmware for march or april 2012 • TELL1 or TEL62 Firmware: • Basic firmware for data correction (time only) • Basic firmware for the L0, just like a OR(160 in)

  12. Conclusions • The massive production of LAV FEE has been started • ToT and sum mezzanine already in production • LAV crates are ok • We shall decide the “Standard” voltage settings ±12V or ±7V • 2012 run and production status • We are at the moment confident to have 3 fully equipped LAV for the 2012 test run.
