Drop Off/Pick-Up Procedures • Use the North side • Do not park on the pick-up line • Do not drop off students or park in teachers’ parking lot • Always use the cross walk • Please be prompt in picking up your child • Childcare is available-$5.00 a day • Students who are not picked up 20 minutes after the bell will be sent to daycare for the day ($5 fee). • Bus students must wear bus tags and ONLY ride their assigned bus

  4. Absences • Research shows attendance is a very important factor to success in school. • If your child is absent, please write a note or bring a doctor’s note so they will be counted as EXCUSED—must be turned in within 3 days. • Allowed 10 excused absences per year • Student needs to be in school until 12:00pm (for perfect attendance) • 3 unexcused absences per six weeks will be cause for truancy to be filed

  5. Tardies • School bell rings at 7:45 • Tardy bell rings at 8:05 • We will start teaching by 8:00am. • 3 tardies = one unexcused absence and perfect attendance trophy will be lost (does not affect report card)

  6. Early Release • Please schedule appointments after school if possible • You must pick-up your child before 3:00pm • You or anyone on the pick-up list will be asked for a current I.D. that matches address on enrollment form

  7. Dress Code Girls • No spaghetti straps • No short skirts or shorts, 2” above the knee –shorts under Boys • No muscle shirts • Hair should be neatly cut Boys & Girls All shirts need to be tucked in. No military clothing regardless of color. Torn clothes that reveal skin are not allowed.

  8. Classroom Rules • Homework must be signed by you daily. • Children should be respectful at all times towards teacher and classmates. • Rewards: prizes • Consequences: time out from recess, parent contact, referral, lunch or after school detention

  9. Homework • Each day, your student will bring home a calendar in the homework folder. • Please check this calendar every night with your child so he/she knows how important his or her work is to you. • Students will receive up to 30 minutes of homework each night: • Saxon Math (if assigned) – 10 min. • Spelling Homework – 10 min. • Reading – 10 min.

  10. Reading • Read the stories of the week. • Read the 2nd story carefully. There will be a test on this story on Friday. • Practice reading sight words. • Practice reading spelling words. • Practice reading library books or any other books the teacher may send home.

  11. Reading • Spelling words: • Words that follow a pattern and can be sounded out • Ex: cat, hat, rat, mat • Sight words: • Words that break the spelling rules. • Students should practice memorizing these words • Ex: to, the, what

  12. Reading • Strategies to help beginning readers: • Sound out the word. • Look at the picture. • Use the first letter to help you. • Jump back to the beginning of the sentence and try again. • Look for little words inside of big words (ex: Monday)

  13. Schedule • P.E. 8:45-9:30 • Lunch 10:40 (30min.) • Conference during P.E. time (except for Wednesdays)

  14. Accelerated Reader • Goals will be set by the teacher every 6 weeks • Goals vary depending on the student’s reading range • Parents: Help by reading with your child daily. • Ask questions about the characters, setting, what happened first/next/last • Ask questions about vocabulary

  15. Tests • Weekly Reading Test on the story of the week • Weekly Math Test • Weekly Spelling Test • Weekly Science Vocabulary Test • Every 6 Weeks: • Unit Tests for Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies • Benchmarks: Math, Reading, Science, Writing

  16. Grades • Progress Report is sent out every 3 weeks • Report Card is sent out every 6 weeks • Students receive a number grade (0-100) • Parents can view report card and absences from home via Skyward

  17. Tutoring • Computer lab is open daily in the morning from 7:15-7:45 • Computer lab is open daily after school from 3:30-4:15 • Your teacher is available to refer you to professional tutors, if needed.

  18. Birthday Celebrations • Parents can bring a cake the last 30 min. of class • No candles please • The Marquee is available for your child’s birthday for $7.
