  4. Why Do We Analyze? • To understand things more completely • To investigate phenomena • To identify and solve problems • To understand how things operate • To breakdown complexities into manageable parts • To understand something so we can use it as a model

  5. Kinds of Analysis • Rhetorical Analysis (Argument Analysis) • Subject Analysis • Problem Analysis • Process Analysis • Visual Analysis These categories are often blended

  6. Rhetorical Analysis Also called Argument Analysis • A systematic examination of an argument • Examine uses of rhetorical elements, including: • Ethos, Pathos, Logos • Audience, Purpose, Medium • How is the author using these elements? • How do these elements work together?
