  4. Check List – What to bring? • CLOTHING: Clothing needs to be considered under three headings: • 1. Wet: you can expect rain at any time of the year and even if it does not rain your waterproof clothing is a good protection against wind chill. Note that the edges of glaciers can be exceptionally muddy (sometimes coming over the top of ordinary walking boots). • 2. Cold: at all times of the year you can expect chilly conditions and thus the principle of warm woollen clothing next to the skin topped by windproof over garments (e.g. cagoule/anorak) is applicable. Winter conditions will be colder but more clothing does not necessarily mean greater warmth; it is the quality and the arrangement of the clothing that is important. • 3. Indoors: the Centre is warm and comfortable and so you will need light clothing and footwear (e.g. trainers) around the buildings.

  5. Minimum Recommended Clothing List Outdoors: • walking boots – students will not be allowed to take part in activities without the proper footwear. This could also stop the whole group from participating • warm socks to wear with footwear (plenty of pairs as they get wet) • waterproof over trousers • Suitable fleece & waterproof jacket ( possibility of -20C) • Thermals (teeshirt/vest/long johns etc) • Layers of clothing (long sleeve cotton/woollen clothing) • Warm trousers (not necessarily jeans – too hard to dry if wet) • gloves (couple of pairs incase they get lost) • woolly hats (balaclava in winter) • sunglasses (bright light - especially in snow) • Ruck sack for daytime equipment, lunch box etc. • a couple of changes of clothing recommended. • Getting wet is to be expected. Indoors: • The hotel is warm and comfortable so casual clothing for Relaxing in the evening will be required Personal: • washing/shaving kit towel (suitable as swimming towel) • Swimsuit/shorts (Blue lagoon) Towels Each student must take responsibility for taking their own medication etc at the correct times.
