A New Land Americas were forever changed when Columbus landed on his tiny Caribbean island in 1492 Over the course o the next 500 years Europeans would come to America in increasing number three reasons that drove the people to the new world. god, glory, and gold. Columbus was looking for the path to India and thought he had found it. That is where Indians got their name from. Once it was discovered that they had found a new world the countries in Europe quickly vied for control over the resources that America had to offer. Jamestown, Virginia was the first permanent English settlement. Christian right. Christianity is the only true religion and all others must be persuaded or enslaved. Slavery was a huge part of colonial America.

  3. Sources Slavery was a huge part of colonial America. We get Historical narratives that give real-life experiences from early interactions between many different groups of people. These narratives are key historical documents that let us know what life was like during that time. Primary Sources- Historical narratives can take the form of documents, such as letters, diaries, journals, and autobiographies, that presents firsthand knowledge of a subject. Secondary sources – provide indirect, secondhand knowledge. Histories and biographies are examples of secondary sources.

  4. Puritans Puritans have a negative connotation. They have been the victims of stereotypes ever since the 16th Century. Most of the misconceptions come from half truths and misconceptions. Puritans value hard work and self sacrifice, but they also honored material success. Wealth was considered a blessing for living a righteous life. Early colonists did not wear black because they hated color they did not have any choice. Puritans also valued family life, community service, art, and literature. Puritans were arrogant and intolerant to other viewpoints. Human beings are inherently evil and so must struggle to overcome their sinful nature. Personal salvation depends solely on the grace of God, not on individual effort. predestination. The Bible is the supreme authority on earth.
