  2. “What is cultural Identity?” • As you read the text, highlight information that helps define the concept of cultural identity. • After reading, Define cultural identity in your own words.

Voice • What is voice? • The way the narrator expresses his/her ideas and personality/persona • What elements contribute to voice? • Go back through the article and underline or make note of stylistic elements that help the author create voice. • What voice or persona does the narrator use? • How does culture influence the narrator’s voice?

Artifacts/Objects • Look over your chart on page 6and Decide which one item is the best representation of you and your culture. • Complete the following writing prompt using the appropriate voice to reflect culture: • Explain how one of the items on your list reflects an aspect of your culture. Assume your reader has never seen the item. Be sure to • Vividly describe the object • Make a connection to your culture/Cultural identity • Articulate the significance of the object to you and your cultural Identity

  5. Homework • Read the essay on pages 11-13. • As you read, annotate and answer the questions in the margins. • Then, answer the questions on page 13.
