  3. English 10 Honors:a typical block • Warm up: grammar or vocabulary mini-lesson and/or practice; journal writing. • SSR • Literature or writing lesson • Group or individual work • Whole class discussion • Writing and research with the computers • Record homework in agendas • Use VISION

  4. Grading/Clarity Formative – 0 % • Homework assignments (5-10 points) • Class assignments/journals (5-10 points) • Rough drafts (30-50 points) • VISION forum posts (5-10 points) Summative – 100% • Projects and presentations (20-60 points) • Journals (5-10 points) • Quizzes (10-15 points) Tests (30-50 points) • Final draft papers (50-100 points total)

  5. So far we have: • Used a formula to write an autobiographical poem • Written a timed writing as a diagnostic • Learned and applied the RAFT Writing Strategy • Read two current nonfiction articles • Begun reading the epic poem Beowulf • Participated in two small group discussions

  6. So far we have: • Discussed the hero’s journey, courage, loyalty, leadership, reputation, generosity • Engaged in Silent Sustained Reading • Practiced with new vocab words and taken a vocab quiz

  7. Future Assignments • Persuasive writing: Students will work to understand and analyze essays and print media and learn ways to present an organized argument. • Homework: comprehension questions and journals, grammar and vocabulary practice, note taking using Cornell notes as they read or watch video presentations • Beowulf • Big Question Research • Multimedia projects: students will collaborate to organize and present literary analysis and research
