  2. 1st Day of School Monday, August 9th, 2010 • School Hours: 7:30-2:25 • Car Riders: Car Bell rings at 2:25 PLEASE use the sign provided and display your child’s name in LARGE DARK LETTERS!

  3. School Attendance = School Success • Tardy Bell rings at 7:30 • Written note within 3 days of absence • Limit of 5 parent notes each semester • Review our system-wide attendance policy on pgs 8-9 in the Arab City Schools handbook OR on pgs 5-6 in our Arab Elementary School handbook

  4. 2010-2011 Holidays Labor Day – September 6 Fall Break – October 11-15 Veteran’s Day – November 11 Thanksgiving – November 24-26 Christmas – December 20-January 3 MLK Day – January 17 Presidents Day – February 21 Spring Break – March 14-18 Good Friday – April 22

  5. Classroom Parties Two classroom parties: * Christmas * Valentine’s Day

  6. 5th Grade Donations • $17.00 covers the cost of Language workbooks, Math workbooks, and daily planners. • STI Home is available for a cost of $5.00 per child. (This can be combined into one check with the grade level fees.) • Make checks payable to Arab Elementary School.

  7. STI Home • STI Home is a program that allows you to monitor your child’s grades using your home computer. • Each student is assigned a password that allows you to view individual scores.

  8. Classroom Supplies Please make sure your child has all supplies, and they are labeled with your child’s name!

  9. Binders/Planners • Assignments will be written on a planner board in the classroom, and your child will be responsible for writing these assignments in his/her planner. • Weekly assignments are written in the planners on Monday. • Planners should be kept in your child’s binder and brought to school daily.

  10. Graded Papers • Wednesday Folder • Weekly tests & AR report • Mid Nine-weeks progress reports • ****Report Cards are sent home every 9 weeks.

  11. Homework • In order for your child to have a successful school year, independent practice is necessary. Sometimes, this independent work isn’t finished at school and must be completed as homework. • 3 homework notices = detention warning • 5 homework notices = after school detention

  12. Discipline • Grade level policy • Continual disruption and/or failure to follow instructions = 5 sentences. • Failure to turn in 5 sentences the following day = 10 sentences. • Failure to turn in 10 sentences the following day = after school detention.

  13. Lunch • The daily cost of a student lunch is $2.00 ($10.00 weekly). • Extra milk may be purchased for $0.30. • Extra items such as ice cream, juice, tea, and sports drinks may be purchased. These items will be deducted from your child’s lunch balance. PLEASE DISCUSS ANY LIMITATIONS WITH YOUR CHILD! • Please consider paying for extended periods of time (weekly or monthly).

  14. Extended Day • Registration is located in the lunchroom. • 2:45-5:30 Monday – Friday

  15. PTO • PTO is located in the lunchroom. Please go by and see them tonight before you leave.
