What are America’s founding Ideals, and why are they important? • Students review material from previous course work! • Students start with mixture of history and current events. • Students learn how to set up the interactive notebook with and engaging assignment • Create a theme for your class!! • BEST PART—EASY PORTFOLIO PIECE

  3. Day 1—Exploring Declaration of Independence • Student determine ideals/define them and give modern examples • Students learn to use PAI textbook

  4. Day 2—Discovering American Ideals in Primary Sources • Students work with partner to explore photographs from America’s past and decide which of the ideals the photo relates to, whether or negatively. • Gives student specific details for their portfolio piece

  5. Day 3—Writing the Essay • Graphic Organizer Provider • Students explore their own thoughts on American history • Write final draft at the end of the semester

  6. American Ideals • Reconstruction (Chapter 11) How was the nation’s commitment to its founding ideals tested during Reconstruction? • Progressive Reformers (chapter 16) How did Progressive Reformers force American to live up to the ideal of opportunity? Postwar America-WWI (chapter 26) What effects did postwar tensions have on America’s founding ideals?
