  1. AA-001-078 Update of University Course Syllabus Policy

  2. Appendix 39.2.2 • In the classroom, academic freedom includes but is not limited to freedom of discussion and freedom to select course material, content, methodology, teaching effectiveness, and sequence within the extended course outline established in the official curriculum as approved by the applicable faculty.

  3. Current Senate Approved Syllabus policy • a. The instructor's name, office location, and phone number, and office hours; • b. A brief statement of course objectives and goals (if this is just a limited to saying that the course covers chapters 1 through 6, so be it, just let the students know); • c. Title of required/recommended text (s) and prerequisites; • d. Tentative schedule of exams and assignments, etc.; • e. An explanation of the grading system (weighted average, percentage, class curve, other) and examination method (objective, essay, cumulative, other); and • f. Policy statement regarding Make-ups of assignments and exams.

  4. A statement of Academic Integrity is Required • “The responsibility of the faculty, instructor or test administrator it to clarify their policies on academic dishonesty to their classes early in each class.” • I am asking Dr. Bruce Grube, Provost and Academic Vice President, to inform all faculty members about this statement on academic integrity and encourage them to include statements on the issue in course outlines.

  5. Section 89320 of The California State Education Code • The Trustees of the California State University shall require each state university, in administering any test or examination, to permit any student who is eligible to undergo the test or examination to do so, without penalty, at a time when that activity would not violate the student's religious creed. This requirement shall not apply in the event that administering the test or examination at an alternate time would impose an undue hardship which could not reasonably have been avoided. In any court proceeding in which the existence of an undue hardship which could not reasonably have been avoided is an issue, the burden of proof shall be upon the institution.

  6. Other CSU Campuses • Many campuses have detailed syllabi requirements and even more detailed attendance rules. • In light of Appendix 39.2.2 the committee did not want to expand the syllabi requirements at CPP. • Therefore, a list of this kind of items was included only to make instructors aware of these issues.
