2. Where do hurricanes typically happen? Hurricanes typically happen around islands and coasts. Hurricanes also happen around tropical places, most of the time they a happen in the summer. Hurricanes like to strike in the Atlantic ocean, Caribbean. Some of the places hurricanes usually happen in the United Sates are from New Orleans to Boston in the U.S.

3. How often does your disaster happen? Hurricanes could happen as frequently thirty a year or as rare as one in thirty years. The Hurricane season is in the summer. Hurricanes happen five times every three years a least.

4. What features of the Earth are involved with your disaster? Some communities use flood walls to stop water from rushing on to property. Hurricanes usually overrun this flood wall and destroy property. In order for a hurricane to happen you need low pressure, the start of the hurricane needs to be away from the equator. You will also need warm water and low stability.

5. What usually happens during hurricanes? When hurricanes happen on beaches they push back the sand. Hurricanes up root trees and destroy lots of property. A typical hurricane will at least a million dollars of damage.

6. What extreme conditions that happen with hurricanes? When hurricanes strike water they shoot it into all different directions. Another thing is that the eye of the hurricane is so safe but the rest of the hurricane is treacherous. Hurricanes flood houses off of property and destroy cites. A hot spot for hurricanes is high places.

7. What type of measurement is hurricanes measured in? This is the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane scale. It is measured in miles per hours in wild and in knots. The scale goes up to a category five hurricane.

8. Describe after effects of hurricane on Earth. Often, animals are pushed away from their natural habitats, stranded and lost. Beaches can erode. Structures are destroyed. Land is flooded. Drinking water can be bad. Electricity can be lost for a long time. Communication can be lost. Trees and other debris can block roads and litter everywhere.

9. Other important facts about hurricanes. Hurricanes are very unpredictable before they form. Once they form, they are fairly predictable . The eye of the hurricane – the middle of it -- is completely safe. The rest of it is deadly.

10. Scientists who are important to understanding hurricanes. Ivor Van Heerden was a scientist at LSU who criticized the Army Corp of Engineers for its design of flood protection in New Orleans. He thought the defense for hurricanes was not good enough. Hurricane Katrina killed many people there. He was fired from his job. Christopher W. Landsea is another hurricane specialist who works at NOAA. He contributes to the study of hurricanes by trying to see the link between hurricanes and global warming.
