Laws that Guide The DP By Law you have only 60 days to comment on DP!! • Guided by the Maharashtra Region and Town Planning Act of 1966, commonly known as the MR&TP act • The DP has to be revised minimum every 20 years • The last DP part was sanctioned in the year 1994 • New DP will be enforced from 2014 and will be in force till 2034 • EOI date 26th June 2009 We want to make this process as Public Participatory as possible!!

Contents of the DP Existing DP • The Development Plan(Maps and a Report on the Development Plan) • Development Control Regulations Commonly referred to as the DCRs • Reservation Document giving the various reservations ward wise What DP could have • Layers of development control maps and regulations for various issues in the city • Proper zoning and sub-division plan • Implementation Strategies for prescribed development in the DP • Development Control Regulations for all layers of the city fabric • Should not circumvent the development control guidelines by giving executive powers to bureaucracy

  4. Area-wise implementation of the existing DP according to the MCGM is only 12% • The current DP does only amenity provision however it has a broader implication on the nature of the development of the city

  5. We want the city to be;

  8. Development Plan Ward Survey B, E, F(north), K(east), K(west), L, M(west), N, S, and T ward Issues Focused on Housing, Education, Health, Water, Environment, Livelihoods, Transportation, Open Space, Energy, Governance, and Urban Form

  10. ENVIRONMENT Goal: To generate clean air and waterways, and foster ecologically sustainable development. 68% said pollution or severely affects their health. 68% also believe cars to the biggest source of pollution in Mumbai.

  11. ENVIRONMENT 43% know what mangroves are. 58% of those believe they should protected from development. 55% know what salt pans are. 61% of those believe they should be protected from development.

  12. Possible Issues for Discussion • Solid waste disposal • Air pollution • Water quality in bays, canals and creeks • Storm water drainage/ flood control • Mangrove and salt pans
