  5. These pearls have luster. • What is luster? Luster is how an object shines in the light. A gold ring has luster. A piece of notebook paper does not.

  6. Which has the greatest volume? Which has the least volume? • What is volume? Volume is how much space an object takes up. A beach ball has more volume than a bowling ball.

  7. What is density? Density is how close the particles are packed together in an object. Madison’s lead bar is more dense than the plastic gram stacker that we passed around.

  8. Which is more dense water or oil? Water

  9. What is mass? Mass is how much matter is in an object. A bowling ball has more mass than a beach ball.

  10. Mass and Weight • Miss Henry keeps telling me that mass and weight are not the same thing. Why does she keep saying that? Remember: Mass is how much matter is in an object.

  14. Mass = 6 kilograms Weight = 58 Newtons Mass = 6 kilograms Weight = 9 Newtons GRAVITY CHANGED! • Weight depends on gravity. (In science, weight can be measured in Newtons.)
