  2. St Davog’s Primary School Our school is very interested in how we can become more healthy and remain like that. Here are some issues which we, as a school ,think about.

  3. Activity • It is important to stay active because your heart will become stronger and your muscles will develop and your body will be trim. • Taking part in a sport is a good way to stay healthy and you will have fun.

  4. Activity • It is extremely important to stay active . • What happens when I exercise? • Our experiment.

  5. HEALTHY FOODS You must eat healthy foods because junk food has high fat and salt content. You should eat healthy foods if you want a healthy body. Here are some ideas you should try- Eat five portions of fruit and veg every day. Drink plenty of water and milk

  6. There are five food groups. • Carbohydrates • Dairy products • Sugar and Fat • Protein • Fruit and Vegetables.

  7. unhealthy foods Foods to avoid would be foods with high sugar and fat like KFCs and takeaways .Too much of anything is bad for you even too much fruit is bad for you .

What Happens when you eat too much of unhealthy foods? • Foods which are high in salt, sugar and fat can cause heart problems and give you a high cholesterol count. • If you were a diabetic it would be dangerous to your health to eat too much sugar . • If you are allergic to foods you should avoid them. • Super size me!

  9. A Healthy Mind makesahealthyperson Talk to someone you trust if you are being bullied or have a problem with your friends. Your problem will be shared. If you need someone to talk to and not sure how to start, talk about this PowerPoint.

  10. Want to be a healthy person? Well look no further .... Get some exercise and plenty of sleep. • Talk to someone and share your feelings. • Eat healthily (A balanced diet) and drink water. • Look after your body.

Personal hygiene • Did you know over that 1,000 times as many germs spread from damp hands than dry hands? • Did you know millions of germs hide under jewellery? • Did you know that going to the toilet increases the number of germs on your hands? Always wash your hands when: • After the toilet. • preparing raw meat and food. • looking after babies or the elderly

  12. Caring For Teeth • It is important to look after your teeth as you will need them for hopefully the next eighty years or more. . You are supposed to only use one squeeze of tooth-paste because it has sugar and chemicals in it. If you don’t rinse it off properly before going to bed it will begin to rot your teeth.

Caring for teeth. • You are supposed to go to your dentist every six months to make sure your teeth are ok. • Keep teeth healthy by looking out for hidden sugars in foods and not cracking hard sweets or lollies with your teeth. • Be careful when playing sports & playing outside. • Healthy smiles programme.

  14. How To Keep Safe From The Sun • Always put on sun lotion in sun even when cloudy. • Always wear a sun hat in the sun . • Avoid the sun during the hottest part of the day.

  15. Thedamages ofAlcohol Alcohol is a drug which is addictive. Man’s normal intake-daily: 3-4 units Woman's normal intake-daily: 2-3 units A pub measure of spirit= 1half units. A pint of ordinary beer= 2 units. A glass of wine= 1 unit. A small glass of sherry= 1 unit. Alcohol can have a big effect on your Body. Alcohol slows the brain down and Stops it from sending the right Messages to the rest of the body. That’s why people sometimes do silly things when they’re drunk.

  16. Tobacco • Tobacco contains the drug nicotine which is addictive. • Tobacco is a plant. Its leaves are dried and made into cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco for people to smoke. • In some places, trees are destroyed to make way for tobacco plants to be grown. • It causes...... • bad breath • Lung/Throat cancer • yellow teeth • smelly clothes • more colds and coughs • difficulty keeping up with friends when playing sports • empty wallet — cigarettes and tobacco products are very expensive!

  17. Solvents & Drugs S is for Solvent, which should never be sniffed. N is for no which we always should say. I is for ill which sniffing can make you. F is for fumes that Solvent give off. F is for first time use that can kill. Drugs are very Harmful. There are some good drugs that make you feel better when your ill. Some tablets help you feel better as well. Here are some kinds of harmful drugs Cocaine, Heroin and Cannabis.

Drugs & Solvents • Some substances have chemicals called Solvents. • Sprays, Tippex and glue are very dangerous solvents • If you sniff these you feel light headed and dizzy and you could die. • Remember Solvents are bad for you to sniff. If you take drugs when you older you could do dangerous things and take risks which could kill you or someone else. Drugs are very addictive.

How to keep safe on farms • Don’t drink or go near dangerous chemicals • Don’t play near cows that have just had a baby calf. • Don’t cycle behind reversing vehicles. • Don’t go near a barn with straw in it with a lighter. • Don’t sit on gates leaning against walls. • If you kick a football into a slurry tank get an adult to get it for you. • When an engine is running in a tractor do not play near it or get in. On farms when you touch the animals remember to wash your hands.

  20. Healthy lunchboxes • We took part in the healthy munch box challenge this year and last year. • Mrs Kelly sent home recipe ideas and told everyone in our news letters.. • We were awarded with a trophy and a certificate.

  21. Ideas for lunchboxes • Remember your 5 food groups. • If you do not like whole vegetables try soup. • GO GO GO try different types of bread.
