  2. Poll Tax Riots • 100,000 people riot in London due to Maggie Thatchers Poll Tax. • Thatcher resigns later in the year.

  3. John Major • John Major becomes PM after Thatchers resignation. • Council Tax replaces Poll Tax • He is heavily involved in Peace Process in Northern Ireland and the Gulf War.

  4. The Chunnel • The last wall of rock is drilled out and England is joined to mainland Europe. • French worker, Philippe Cozette, and his British counterpart, Graham Fagg, meet under the Channel.

  5. Nelson Mandela • After 27 years in Robben Island, Nelson Mandela is free. • His release see a huge change in apartheid law in South Africa. • 100,000 people crowd to see his speech.

  6. Reunification of Germany • East and West Germany are reunited, nearly a year after the fall of The Berlin Wall. • First free elections since 1933

  7. Gorbachev • Mikhail Gorbachev win the Nobel Peace Prize for his involvement in the Peace Process. • His influence starts the fall of Communism in Europe, and the break of the Soviet Union.
