When you finish, add your hints/connections to your cards.

  14. GEN 502: Draw generalizations and conclusions about people, ideas and so on in more challenging passages. • What is a generalization? • A generalization is a broad statement about a subject based on evidence provided from the text.

  15. Examples of generalizations • Dogs are nicer than cats. • Anyone can learn to cook if they try. • Most students enjoy when we have pizza for lunch on Thursday.

  16. Making generalizations about characters. • Identifying characters’ actions allows the reader to make generalizations.

  17. Making generalizations: • With a partner, make a generalization about Miley Cyrus. Identify two pieces of evidence to support your generalization. • Miley Cyrus is a poor role model. • She sings about using drugs. • She did inappropriate dancing on TV.

  18. Purpose for Reading: • SWBAT create and support 3 generalizations about the characters of “Cupid and Psyche.”

  22. Cupid and Psyche: See if you can get all of the main points!! • Venus is a super pretty godess! • Psyche shows up and is PRETTIER than Venus. Venus gets mad. • Venus says, “Hey Cupid (my son): go sprinkle ugly water on Psyche so that no one likes her!” • Cupid accidentally pokes himself with his arrow and falls in LOVE with Psyche (whoops!) • Psyche goes to meet her husband in the palace and is told not to look at him. • Psyche does what her sisters say and looks at her husband. He is actually CUPID, and he’s upset that she looked at him. He vanishes. • Psyche IMPLORES Venus to help her, and Venus gives her three jobs to complete. • Psyche completes the jobs, but with the help of Cupid and others. Venus = not happy. Psyche’s curiosity makes her open the box and it makes her go to sleep. • Finally, Cupid finds Psyche, revives her, and marries her. They have a child and live happily ever after  What is the lesson or moral to this story???

  23. Karla woke up Monday morning with a high fever. Even before Karla told her mother that she wasn’t feeling well, her mother could _______ from the pale color on Karla’s face that she was sick.
