  1. Optical Gigabit Ethernet Group 4 February 24, 2005 Ronen Adato

  2. Progress Overview • Received VCSELs and ROSAs • Completed initial schematics • Priced all passives • Created webpage

  3. VCSELs • Emcore TO-46, 2.5 Gb/s VCSEL • High performance VCSEL • Costs: Free samples

  4. VCSELs • Lasermate TSC-P85A426-2 VCSEL • SC connectorized VCSEL • Costs: • 1 = $32.00/unit • >10,000 = $7.95/unit

  5. ROSAs • Lasemate RSC-P85P416 1.25 Gb/s SC ROSA • SC connectorized ROSA • Costs: • 2-3 = $36.00/unit • >10,000 = $6.00/unit

  6. Transmitter Schematic

  7. Transmitter Schematic • Schematic derived from Maxim laser driver and evaluation board data sheets as well as past group’s work • Key points and considerations for PCB layout • Numerous capacitors and filters used to prevent interference and noise • The Lasermate VCSEL is common anode type, and needs to be connected accordingly • The loop connecting OUT+ (pin 12) to the laser supply needs to be tight • Power line is to be run under the Maxim chip

  8. Receiver Schematic

  9. Receiver Schematic • Schematic derived from Maxim receiver evaluation board data sheets as well as past group’s work • Key points and considerations for PCB layout • Supply filters placed between the transmitter and receiver supply lines and between the ROSA and Limiting Amplifier

  10. Passive Component Selection • Decided to buy all passives except for SMA connectors from one vendor to minimize shipping issues

  11. GANTT Chart

  12. Tasks for Next Week • Order all passive components • Complete financial budget and bill of materials • Complete initial PCB board layout designs and submit for review by Tuesday
