  2. Fun Facts • The U.S. Constitution has 4,400 words. It is the oldest and shortest written Constitution of any major government in the world." • The Constitution was “penned” by Jacob Shallus, A Pennsylvania General Assembly clerk, for $30 ($726 today). • Because of his poor health, Benjamin Franklin needed help to sign the Constitution. As he did so, tears streamed down his face.

  3. I. Basics • Official in June 1788. • Bill of Rights was added in 1791 (1st Ten Amendments) • Basic rule book for setting up and running US government. • 3 Sections: • Preamble (intro) • Consists of 7 Articles or chapters. • Amendments (27 total)

  4. II. Articles • Article 1 details the Legislative branch which includes Congress. • Article 2 outlines the Executive Branch-President. • Article 3 describes the functions of the judicial branch. • Article 4 deals with relations between the states.

  5. e) Article 5 discusses the amendment process. f) Article 6 states that the Federal Government is in charge. g)Article 7 set up how the Constitution needed to be approved.
