  4. Part 1 • Summer Fellow Training • Instructional Planning Course • Requirements, Microteaching • E3 Program Components (Emerging Ethnic Engineers) • RET Interaction (Research Experience for Teachers)

Instructional Planning Course • Led by Grant Coordinator and UC Faculty • Teaching Overview • Pedagogical techniques • Microteaching (2) • Journal entries • Shadowing • Reading • Lesson Plan development • (Overview, Purpose, Standards, Goals, Objectives, Strategies, Technology, Misconceptions, Activity, ACS, Review, Evaluation, Assessment, Reflection)

E3 Program Components • Summer Institute (July) • 1 microteaching lesson • Problem Based Learning (PBL) • 8th-12th grade students • Bridge Program (August) • 1 microteaching lesson; Activity incorporation encouraged for Fellow • Incoming college freshmen (Calculus, Physics, Chemistry) • Family Science Academy (August) • Two Saturdays: 1 preparation, 1 activity, 4th-7th graders • Lesson: Green Roof Technology

  10. Practicum Series The goals of the course include: • Designing inquiry based activities • Awareness of professional development • Focus on educational methods, concepts, theory, and assessment • Reading books on K-12 classroom science and mathematics • Exposure to leading STEM educators

  11. STEP Structure • Overall • 6 schools • 24 teachers • 6 Fellows • 6 PI’s • 4 Coordinators • Individual • 1 school • 4 teachers • 1 Fellow

Observations and Implementations • 1st 4 weeks of academic year (September) • Observations of 4 teachers • Journal with specific questions, notes, and reflections • 2nd 4 weeks of academic year (October) • Create first major by November 1st • Begin interacting with students on daily basis • November through June • Create 5 majors (lessons or STEMcinnati thematic units) • 6 week lesson creation timeline
