  1. GK 12 Project NSF Project: Creation of A Biosensor Central High Elaine Keel, Thomas Murray, Wayne Doerr, Perry Gridley,( Rachelle Vigil & Ben Locascio associates )

  2. Physics • Is there a nationalized standardized test for physics • Focus on concepts • Pre/post test • Essay way to do test • Real world connections to physics • Geometry in electrical settings involving physics

  3. Chemistry • Bonding theories Time frame mid October or first week of November (another best fit might be by Skype • Ionic and covalent bonding • Multiple classes could be covered in a day • Models of organic compounds • NO in the research

  4. Chemistry • Polymers Lab Skype • Do her lab when she comes. • We do this lab but since it is at the end of year as more of a “filler” we never see how it works structurally in molecular form. That needs to emphasized and you know how to • This fall the silly putty lab activity coordinate the classes to have all level “see it”

  5. chemistry • Spring semester • Reaction Rates • January or February target time • Ours are the penny labs • Luminal /bleach lab • Rate of reaction with connection to the project • Connect to math model real vs. theory • Half life graphing relationships

  6. Chemistry • Acid/Base; oxidation & reduction • Best February time frame; another Skype event? • pH implications in the project • How it impacted results and reset the focus for the project

  7. Biology • Neurons • Synaptic “reactions” Drugs in the synaptic transfer Cell movement in ovary

  8. Geometry, Trigonometry & Statistics • Shape of surface and contact capacity • Which geometrical shape works best based on graphical data

  9. Approaches to changing Learning Outcomes • Dialogues • Use of labs to see integration between disciplines • Build a neuron-axon • Major painting on hall wall of it • Find ways for kids to respond to what impact was on them • Try true k-12 classroom actions • Inter-disciplinary (art & writing??????) • Find a way to truly measure you got what were targeting • Elaine/Ben see Linda’s & Krystle’s units

  10. What we will be doing • Use our lessons and labs when possible in their classes. Interact with CSU fellows with questions in support of them delivering the lessons. • Connect with other GK-12 project teachers to share ideas and support instruction. • Participate in two fellow to classroom/student Skype sessions per semester. • Help organize a CSU fellow visit day to their school during the academic year. • Two teachers will participate in the summer workshops here at CSU this summer to build bridges and collaborations with local teachers.
