  1. LO To use boxing up to solve wordy problems RAG Key Words: Collaborate, explain, justify Janet has 40 CDs to sell at £3 each. She sells of them at full price. She then sells half of what's left with 20% off. The rest she gives to charity. If they cost £200 to buy how much profit does she make?

  2. Today’s Task On each table there is a wordy problem. You will have 5 minutes at each table to work together to solve the problem using boxing up. When the timer rings you must move in a clockwise direction to the next table. At each table you should ‘Think, Pair and then Share with the people opposite. You can ask for one a hint if necessary. However, when you ask for help you must use one of the ‘Boxing Up’ questions.

  3. Rules Attempt every problem. Even if you can’t get to a final answer, you should be able to write something in each box. You can only ask for help using one of the ‘Boxing Up’ questions:- What is the question asking me? What Maths will I be using. What working out do I need to do? How can I check that my answer is correct?

  6. Chris owns a clothes shop. He bought 50 shirts at £12 for each shirt. He chose the selling price of each shirt so that he would make a profit of 30% on each shirt. He sold 20 shirts at this price. Chris then reduced the selling price of each shirt by 15%. He then sold the remaining shirts at this reduced selling price. Has Chris made a profit or loss? GASCOM Standing charge per month: £1.00 Cost per kWh: £2.99 UGAS Standing charge per month: £3.78 Cost per kWh: £2.38 Mr Black estimates that he will use 4000 kWh in the next 3 months.
