  1. HBD: Update and Schedule Itzhak Tserruya DC Meeting, BNL, April 13, 2005 • Outline: • Full scale prototype status • Light source test • Construction Schedule

  2. Full-scale prototype • Construction completed: • no major problem with construction • procedure or with jigs • ready to go for final design • Presently studying gas purity and • window configuration. • Only inner window glued. • Outer window attached with masking tape.

  3. Full-scale prototype • 200 l/h N2 flushing • Single window 50 micron thick • is not enough • Can reach less than 10 ppm water • within couple of weeks. • need a few weeks to complete the • window studies and decide on • configuration: • - single window of ~100  thickness • - 2x50  window without N2 flushing • - 2x50  window with N2 flushing

  4. Acceptance || ≤ 0.45  = 135o || ≤ 0.36  = 104o

  5. Light source test GOAL: direct measurement of N0. • Trigger counters installed and aligned. • DAQ OK • Detector vessel, radiator and detector module with CsI photocatode sent from WI to BNL. • CsI measured at BNL and found consistent with measurement at WI • Gas system and transmission through radiator • Urgently need of glove box for detector assembly

  6. Schedule: 1. Detector construction • Goal: Detector ready for Run-6. • Working hypothesis: Run-6 is delayed, starts Jan 2006. • HBD construction: A. WI: - Detector and jigs design: 2m start May 1st end June - Vessel construction: 3m start June 1st end August. - Framing and pretest of GEM foils: schedule dictated by foil delivery from CERN scheduled to start May 1st @ 30 foils/month  assume total delivery time of 4m. Work start June 1st  end September. Shipping to SBU start July 1st  end October. B. SBU: - Set-up of assembly and test facility should be completed by July 1st. - CsI evaporation and module test proceed in parallel in assembly line fashion. Work start July 15  15 November. - Final detector assembly and test November – December. - Full detector ready for installation Jan. 2006. Critical items: - freeze acceptance and GEM size - freeze design and produce motherboards

  7. Schedule: 2. Electronics Pre-amplifier production: - First batch of 200 pre-amps already produced - Production start July, complete in 1-2 months FEM production: - FEM prototype ready end of May 3m test end August - FEM production: begin September 2005  February 2006 - FEM test and installation Schedule: 3. Gas, monitor, infrastructure Gas system: - Construction start after Run-5, complete in 2 months Monitoring systems: - 4m delivery time, ready in September Infrastructure (gas pipe, HV, LV): - start after Run-5
