  11. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: Friends in Christ: Let us draw near to God our Father with a true heart to confess our sins, and ask him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to forgive us.

  12. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: Our help is in the name of the Lord. C: ♫ He mádeheavên and earth. M: I said, I will confess my sins to the Lord. C: ♫ Then hé forgave the guilt of my sin.

  13. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION C: Almighty God, merciful Father, I, a poor helpless sinner, confess to you all my sins, and repent of all the evil I have done. I have deeply displeased you and deserve your punishment in time and in eternity.

  14. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION But I am sorry for my sins, and I ask you, for the sake of the holy innocent sufferings and death of your dear Son Jesus Christ, to be gracious and merciful to me. Amen.

  15. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: I ask each of you in the presence of God who searches the heart: Do you confess that you have sinned, and do you repent of your sins? C: I do.

  16. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: Do you believe that Jesus Christ has redeemed you from all your sins, and do you desire forgiveness in his name? C: I do.

  17. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: Do you intend with the help of the Holy Spirit to live as in God's presence, and to strive daily to lead a holy life, even as Christ has made you holy? C: I do.

CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: Upon your confession, I, as a called and ordained servant of the word, announce the grace of God to all of you, and on behalf of my Lord Jesus Christ , and by his command, I forgive you all your sins, in the name of the Father and of the Son † and of the Holy Spirit.   26. PRAYER OF THE DAY M: Let us pray for humility. C: Jesus, our self-giving Saviour, teach us to be like you. Make us humble and ready to put the needs of others before our own. For you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

  27. FIRST READING R: The first reading for the fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost is written in Chapter two of Jeremiah beginning at verse four. Jeremiah 2:4-13 CEV God accuses Israel of turning away from him

  28. Jeremiah 2:4-13 4Listen, people of Israel, 5and I, the LORD, will speak. I was never unfair to your ancestors, but they left me and became worthless by following worthless idols. 6Your ancestors refused to ask for my help, though I had rescued them from Egypt and led them through a treacherous, barren desert, where no one lives or dares to travel.

  29. Jeremiah 2:4-13 7I brought you here to my land, where food is abundant, but you made my land filthy with your sins. 8The priests who teach my laws don't care to know me. Your leaders rebel against me; your prophets give messages from Baal and worship false gods.

  30. Jeremiah 2:4-13 9I will take you to court and accuse you and your descendants 10of a crime that no nation has ever committed before. Just ask anyone, anywhere, from the eastern deserts to the islands in the west. 11You will find that no nation has ever abandoned its gods even though they were false.

Jeremiah 2:4-13 I am the true and glorious God, but you have rejected me to worship idols. 12Tell the heavens to tremble with fear! 13You, my people, have sinned in two ways - you have rejected me, the source of life-giving water, and you've tried to collect water in cracked and leaking pits dug in the ground. This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

  32. Psalm 81CEV R: The Psalm is Psalm eighty one. 1Be happy and shout to God who makes us strong! C: 10I am the LORD your God. I rescued you from Egypt. Just ask, and I will give you whatever you need.

  33. Psalm 81CEV R: 11"But, my people, Israel, you refused to listen, and you would have nothing to do with me! C: 12So I let you be stubborn and keep on following your own advice.

  34. Psalm 81CEV R: 13"My people, Israel, if only you would listen and do as I say! C: 14I, the LORD, would quickly defeat your enemies with my mighty power. R: 15Everyone who hates me would come crawling, and that would be the end of them.

  35. Psalm 81CEV C: 16But I would feed you with the finest bread and with the best honey until you were full." Shout praises to the God of Jacob. C: Glory to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit As it was in the beginning, is now and will be for ever. Amen.

  36. SECOND READING R: The second reading is written in Chapter thirteen of Hebrews beginning at verse one. Hebrews 13:1-8,15,16 CEV Obligations in community, home, and church

  37. Hebrews 13:1-8,15,16 Keep being concerned about each other as the LORD'S followers should. 2Be sure to welcome strangers into your home. By doing this, some people have welcomed angels as guests, without even knowing it.

  38. Hebrews 13:1-8,15,16 3Remember the LORD'S people who are in jail and be concerned for them. Don't forget those who are suffering, but imagine that you are there with them. 4Have respect for marriage. Always be faithful to your partner, because God will punish anyone who is immoral or unfaithful in marriage.

  39. Hebrews 13:1-8,15,16 5Don't fall in love with money. Be satisfied with what you have. The Lord has promised that he will not leave us or desert us. 6That should make you feel like saying, "The Lord helps me! Why should I be afraid of what people can do to me?"

  40. Hebrews 13:1-8,15,16 7Don't forget about your leaders who taught you God's message. Remember what kind of lives they lived and try to have faith like theirs. 8Jesus Christ never changes! He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

  41. Hebrews 13:1-8,15,16 15Our sacrifice is to keep offering praise to God in the name of Jesus. 16But don't forget to help others and to share your possessions with them. This too is like offering a sacrifice that pleases God. This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

  42. RESPONSE C: ♫ Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! C: This is the one to whom I will look, says the Lord, to the humble and contrite in spirit, who trembles at my word. (Isa 66:2b NRSV alt Alleluia. )

  44. Luke 14:1,7-14 One Sabbath, Jesus was having dinner in the home of an important Pharisee, and everyone was carefully watching Jesus.

  45. Luke 14:1,7-14 7Jesus saw how the guests had tried to take the best seats. So he told them: 8When you are invited to a wedding feast, don't sit in the best place.

  46. Luke 14:1,7-14 Someone more important may have been invited. 9Then the one who invited you will come and say, "Give your place to this other guest!" You will be embarrassed and will have to sit in the worst place.

  47. Luke 14:1,7-14 10When you are invited to be a guest, go and sit in the worst place. Then the one who invited you may come and say, "My friend, take a better seat!" You will then be honoured in front of all the other guests. 11If you put yourself above others, you will be put down.
