  2. What is Research? • Research simply means trying to find answers to questions to learn more about the world around us • Research is the organized, systematic search for answers to the questions we ask • Research is a disciplined inquiry

  3. What is Research? • According to the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary(2007), the word research means: a. to search or investigate exhaustively b. studious inquiry or examination; c. the collecting of information about a particular subject

  7. Finding answers to research questions • There are 2 basic ways of finding answers to questions • By looking at what other people have said about a particular issue. This is called secondary, conceptual or library research and it is an essential form of inquiry because it would be a waste of time and energy to ignore other people’s work and reinvent the wheel • By conducting one’s own data-based or empirical investigation, which involves collecting data and then drawing some conclusion from it. This is called primary research.
