  2. About Me • Choir director for over 30 years in education, church, and community • Taught at all levels – elementary, MS, HS – 9th year in this building • Issaquah school district parent for 20+ years

  3. Philosophy • Process driven, laying the foundation • Skill-based – sequential music literacy and performances • Flipped classroom model • Student leadership model

  4. Student Expectations • In attendance & prepared – in class daily and at performances during and outside of the school day • Nightly at-home practice 5-6 days/week expected minutes increase by grade – see practice sheet – due monthly • Recorded tests (due approximately every other Friday – see calendar for due dates) • Music Theory/Sight Singing – online assignments due monthly, counts as practice

Performance Calendar • Four main concerts: Nov 1st, Dec 12th, Mar 21st, Jun 6th • Performance attire • Formal performance attire – • Girls: choir dresses; black dress shoes/sandals • Boys: choir outfits, black dress shoes, black socks • Informal performance attire - music polos (more information to come)

  6. Extra-curricular opportunities • Jr. All-State Honor choirs – recorded auditions this week and next, after school by appointment • Solo & Ensemble – March 11th • Private voice/piano lessons • School musical

  8. Grades • 25-30% - daily participation/outside practice • 25-30% - performances • 10-20% - theory/sight-singing assignments • 25-30% - written and recorded tests • 5% - forms & other assignments

  9. Parents’ part • PLEASE encourage daily practice/ doing theory assignments • transportation to outside-of-school/off-site events • PLEASE don’t schedule events on concert nights • chaperone & volunteer opportunities
