Now comes the time to push our students to the highest before summer break. Next week we will be MAP testing for the last time this year. Please get those students working hard this week to prepare them for this testing. We are researching birds. Each student will become an expert on a bird of their choice and they will teach the rest of the first grade about their bird. Ask them about their bird and about animal classifications. Reading Tips to help your students: Have your students retell you the story and ask them what is the main idea or the important details. Ask them to describe the setting using the illustrations and details from the book. Read every Night: Please write the title of the books you read in the student planner. Read for 20 minutes for 20 nights in April and receive a coupon for a free pizza. Reading helps them become better readers. Writing tips to help your students: Please make sure your students spelling sentences are neat, use correct capital letters and have punctuation. Below is the content we will focus on this week. Reading:I can read a word with the ank and ing spelling patterns. I can read a word with irregular spelling pattern I can hear each sound in a consonant cluster and read words with clusters. I know that every syllable has a vowel sound. I can change the last part of a word to make a new word.
