  6. 1ST GRADE Mrs. Danapilis The 3 R’s of HOMEWORK • Review • Routine • Responsibility • (Return . . .)

  7. 1ST GRADE Mrs. Danapilis HOMEWORK • Your child will be given homework assignments regularly which will be required to be written on the homework log. • Your child is responsible for completing his/her assignments and turning them in on time. • Following are some suggestions for ways to help your child gain the most from his/her homework experience:

  8. 1ST GRADE Mrs. Danapilis • HOMEWORK • Make homework rules together with your child. • Check homework log daily, and decide when and where the homework will be done. • Provide a quiet place for your child to do his/her homework. • Encourage your child to work independently. • Assist him/her if needed. • When your child has finished, go over the homework together. Correct any errors there may be. Discuss the objective of the homework. • Please give your child positive words of encouragement, such as “You should be proud of yourself” or “I knew you could do this all by yourself!”

  9. 1ST GRADE Mrs. Danapilis HOMEWORK • All homework assignments will pertain to what we are doing in class. • Unless otherwise noted, the homework will be due the next day. • Please feel free to contact me if you have questions about homework. • THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

  10. 1ST GRADE Mrs. Danapilis STAR STUDENT • We will be having a star student each week. • A blank poster will go home the week before your child is scheduled to be the STAR STUDENT. Please help your child decorate the poster to show us all about him/her. • The STAR STUDENT may bring items from home that will let us • know something special about • him/her.

  11. 1ST GRADE Mrs. Danapilis FIELD TRIPS Trips will be taken to: • Sarett Nature Center Butterfly Garden • Upton Planetarium • Calling All Colors • We are asking for a donation of $5 per • student (or $10, maximum, per family) • to help fund the field trips. • **Please complete and sign the field trip permission slip this evening, or send it • to school as soon as possible.**

  12. 1ST GRADE Mrs. Danapilis BIRTHDAYS You may send birthday treats to school, if you wish. Please keep in mind our wellness policy here at E.P. Clarke. There are many creative, healthier alternatives your child can bring. If your child’s birthday occurs during the summer, we celebrate it as a half-birthday. For example, if your child’s birthday is June 8th, s/he may celebrate on, or around, December 8th.

  13. 1ST GRADE Mrs. Danapilis SNACKS We will be eating two snacks each day – one right before our morning recess and one right after our afternoon recess. Please pack two small HEALTHY snacks that s/he can enjoy during snack time. Please keep in mind our wellness policy. Also, try to make snacks easy for your child to open without help. A healthy snack will help sustain your child throughout the day!

  14. 1ST GRADE Mrs. Danapilis WATER BOTTLES I encourage your child to bring a water bottle with a lid (filled ONLY with water) to school daily. It is very important that s/he stay hydrated!

  15. 1ST GRADE Mrs. Danapilis PARTY MONEY We will have 3 holiday parties – one for each of the following holidays: Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine’s Day. I am asking for a $3.00 contribution (for the year) from each family to be used for snacks and crafts at the parties for the entire year.

  16. 1ST GRADE Mrs. Danapilis SHOW AND TELL Occasionally, your child may have something to share with his/her classmates. If it applies to something we are doing in class, s/he may bring it in. If the show and tell is large, or alive, please check with me before sending it to school.

  17. 1ST GRADE Mrs. Danapilis Indoor/Outdoor Shoes In order to keep our carpeting looking nice, I am asking that your child have clean shoes to wear in the classroom. This mainly pertains to the winter months when boots are required outdoors. Sweater/Sweatshirt Temperatures in our classroom vary widely. Please send in a sweatshirt or sweater for your child to keep at school for this reason.

  18. 1ST GRADE Mrs. Danapilis MAKE YOUR MARK • To avoid confusion amongst the kids, PLEASE write your child’s name on: • Shoes/Boots • Outdoor Clothing/Sweaters • Water Bottles • Lunch Pails

  19. 1ST GRADE Mrs. Danapilis CHANGE OF CLOTHES One can never tell when your child might have a spill, fall in the mud while playing, or just have a messy accident of some sort. For this reason, please send in a change of clothes (with names on the items & on the bag they are in) to keep at school all year. Make sure to include underwear!!!
