  1. Heart pumps bloodthrough body When looking at heart, think of a person laying on a table… right side left side • Veins : to the heart • Arteries: Away from the heart

  2. Heart is a PumP • 4 chambers • Heart beat you hear is open/closing of valve noise • Deoxygenated blood right side • Oxygenated blood left side • Atriums (tops) pump together • Ventricles (bottoms) pump together

  3. Video link aorta superior vena cava Pulmonary artery Pulmonary artery Inferior vena cava Pulmonary valve Pulmonary veins Right atrium left atrium Tricuspid valve Bicuspid valve Left ventricle Right ventricle Aortic valve Inter ventricular septum

  4. How do I get air? • Inhale: diaphragm contracts  chest cavity to expands as diaphragm moves down • Causes area of low pressure (“no air”) • Air rushes in to fill void • Exhale: diaphragm relaxes and returns to normal resting position  diaphragm moves up • Air naturally flows out from greater pressure Video link

  5. How does my blood get oxygenated?

  6. CO2 out O2 in via DIFFUSION Video link

  7. Diabetes Video link Video link Blood Sugar Homeostasis(negative feedback loop) • Returns system to a set point once it deviates sufficiently • Like thermostat
