  1. The Path of Blood Through the Heart Part I • All the blood from the body travels through veins back to the heart. • The blood from the head and neck enter the heart through the superior vena cava. • Most of the blood from the rest of body enters the heart through the inferior vena cava. • Once they reach the heart they combine in the right atrium.

  2. The Path of Blood Through the Heart Part II • As the heart beats blood is squeezed down into the right ventricle through the tricuspid valve. • When it beats again the blood travels from the right ventricle to the lungs through the pulmonary arteries.

  3. The Path of Blood Through the Heart Part III • When the heart beats the blood in the lungs is pushed through the pulmonary veins to the left atrium. • When it beats again the blood travels from the left atrium down to the left ventricle through the mitral valve.

  4. The Path of Blood Through the Heart Part IV • Finally when the heart beats again blood is pushed out of the heart to the body’s tissues through the aorta. • The aorta is the largest blood vessel, and has thick walls to absorb the high pressure blood is under when it leaves the heart. • From the aorta the arteries carry the blood to the body’s tissues.
