  2. COLLEGE APPLICATION INFORMATION NIGHTfor Seniors

  3. Presentation Goals: Review the role Naviance plays in the application process. Identify steps to getting the application process started for 2-yr and 4-yr colleges. Review topics related to scholarships, financial aid and NCAA. Provide reminder of important dates.

  4. PARENTS ARE AN IMPORTANT PART OF THIS PROCESS. We want to work closely with you to ensure the best possible outcome!

  5. Seniors are encouraged to access the various college advising programs offered during SMART lunch!

  6. We hope by now all seniors are registered and use it regularly. If not, please contact your counselor.

  7. WHAT CAN STUDENTS AND PARENTS DO USING NAVIANCE? • Access Guidance Department updates and news bulletins. • View list of colleges visiting KRHS and sign up to attend. • Complete a college search. • Develop a prospective college list. • Track deadlines. • Request and process teacher recommendations. • Create a résumé. • Access scholarship search engines; over a hundred national scholarships are available. • Link to selected third party resources (i.e. College Board, Financial Aid, NCAA, Careers, College searches, etc.).

What do you need to do to get the four -year application process started? • Submit college application (Common App vs. online app) electronically. • Update Naviance by moving schools to “Colleges I’m Applying To”. • Submit a completed “College Application Checklist” for EACH school to your counselor after you have submitted it electronically to the college.

  9. THEN YOU WILL NEED TO GET A FEW THINGS IN ORDER: Ensure signed “Transcript Release Form” is on file. Secure letters of recommendation using “Student Profile Form” and communicate with teachers when they are to be sent. Contact College Board/ACT to forward official SAT/ACT Scores directly to Admissions. Make a calendar with dates and deadlines.

  10. Applying to Rutgers University • Unique process • On-line application only • December 1st is the preferred deadline for scholarship consideration • No transcripts or recommendation letters required • SRAR–Student Reported Academic Record

  11. ARE YOU APPLYING “EARLY” ? EARLY DECISION (ED) - Binding agreement between school and student. Upon notification of acceptance, student is required to withdraw pending applications. EARLY ACTION-(EA) Early notification of admission’s decision. This action is non-binding for both parties.

  12. PROCESSING THE TWO-YEAR COLLEGE APPLICATION SAT/ACT not required for admission but may exempt student from placement testing Selective programs/two- tier application No recommendations required RCGC—On-site in December

  13. RCGC On-Site Registration • Through a partnership with RCGC, Kingsway offers this service to our students who plan to enroll at RCGC the following fall. • Informational meeting with for seniors held during school day.Interested students should sign up in Naviance to attend.

  15. LET’S TALK ABOUT SCHOLARSHIPS. . . College-based Scholarships—check with the institution’s admissions and/or financial aid office. Community-based Scholarships—investigate your employer, church, local businesses and organizations. Scholarship Newsletter—distributed to seniors throughout the course of the school year. Also available on our website and Naviance. Scholarship Search Engines available on Guidance website and Naviance.

  16. SCHOLARSHIP SCAMS The Kingsway Guidance Department strongly recommends that you pay careful attention to protect yourself and your family against scholarship scams.

  17. What about financial aid? We encourage you to direct all questions and concerns to the financial aid office of a specific college.
