  5. Family Connection We are pleased to feature Family Connection from Naviance, a web based service designed especially for students. Family Connection is a comprehensive website that can help in making decisions about colleges and careers. Family Connection is linked with Naviance Succeed, a service that we use in our office to track and analyze data about college and career plans, so it provides up-to-date information that is specific to our school. The following slides provide an overview of Family Connection.

  7. How is it accessed? Family Connection is web-based: • Link available on Guidance website • http://connection.naviance.com/Kingsway • Student accounts

  8. HOW DO YOU REGISTER? Students receive a registration code (student ID#) • Registration codes are used to create accounts • Codes can be used only once • On your first visit, enter the code in the New User box, then follow on-screen instructions to create a user name and password (see slide #9) • On subsequent visits, sign in using the Returning User box

WHAT CAN STUDENTS AND PARENTS DO USING FAMILY CONNECTION? • Access Guidance Department updates and news bulletins • Create a résumé • View list of colleges visiting KRHS and sign up to attend • Complete a college search • Develop a prospective college list • Access scholarship search engines; over a hundred national • scholarships are available • Complete school developed surveys (Graduation Survey) • Link to selected third party resources • (i.e. College Board, Financial Aid, NCAA, Careers, College searches, etc.) • Track deadlines • Request and process teacher recommendations • Process applications once submitted to college (electronic, Common App, etc)

  14. What do you need to do to get the application process started? • Log onto Family Connections • Contact your counselor

YOU ALSO NEED TO GET A FEW THINGS IN ORDER: Sign “Transcript Release Form” Secure letters of recommendation (using “Family Connections”) Review applications—details and deadlines Contact College Board/ACT to forward official SAT/ACT Scores Make a calendar with dates and deadlines Feel free to e-mail your guidance counselor with questions

PROCESSING THE TWO-YEAR COLLEGE APPLICATION GCC Paper application preferred for On-Site College Application Checklist SAT/ACT not required for admission but may exempt student from placement testing. Selective programs/two- tier application No recommendations required Gloucester County College—On-site in December

GCC On-Site Registration • Through a partnership with GCC, Kingsway offers this service to our students who plan to enroll at GCC the following fall. • 12/14/12 -Informational meeting for seniors held in the Eitel Theatre. On-Site applications distributed.    •  2013 - Individual appointments with GCC representative. Applications must be turned in prior to this date. Placement testing discussed.

  18. FOUR-YEAR COLLEGE APPLICATIONS On-line application – Family Connection Common Application – Family Connection Be aware of “supplements” to the Common Application Rutgers University – online self-reported by student/no documents sent. Whenever possible confirm receipt of your application !

  19. Applying to Rutgers University • On-line application only • December 1st is the preferred deadline for scholarship consideration • No transcripts or recommendation letters required • SRAR–Student Reported Academic Record • Request “unofficial copy” of transcript from your counselor

  20. ARE YOU APPLYING “EARLY” ? EARLY DECISION (ED) - Binding agreement between school and student. Upon notification of acceptance, student is required to withdraw pending applications. EARLY ACTION-(EA) Early notification of admission’s decision. This action is non-binding for both parties.

PROCESSING FOUR-YEAR APPLICATION Review, complete, and proof read Organize appropriate supporting materials—resumes, essays, recommendations, and check/money order Submit your College Application Checklist and supporting documents to your guidance counselor Track your application Contact College Board to send official scores to the college

  23. LET’S TALK ABOUT SCHOLARSHIPS. . . College-based Scholarships—check with the institution’s financial aid office Community-based Scholarships—investigate your employer, church, local businesses and organizations Scholarship Newsletter—senior homeroom/website/e-mail throughout the course of the school year

  24. What about financial aid? You should direct all questions and concerns to the financial aid office of a specific college.
