  2. FLIPPED CLASSROOM We are flipping the classroom this year for both Math IB SL and Calculus 1. What is flipping?

  3. GRADES:Tests, Quizzes, WSQs, and Portfolios Quizzes - We will try to have a quiz every two weeks. They may be of the following form: • Short answer or Explanation • Quickie Quiz • Video/Educreations quiz Tests - Periodically we will have tests, 2 or 3 a trimester. If you score below an 80%, you may take a retest (within 2 weeks) to improve your grade. The highest grade you can receive on a retest is an 80. There are NO retakes on quizzes. WSQ (watch-summary-question) Portfolio/Project - We will have a portfolio/project each trimester. They involve in depth writing and solutions to a particular problem. These assignments will give you the opportunity to explore mathematical topics and to clearly communicate your findings. They must be typed with complete sentences. All math/equations must be in a correct format. The written work that you submit must be entirely your own.

IB Math Score – comprised of 3 parts Thursday, May 13, 2014 (PM) – Paper 1 • 1.5 hours • Calculator NOT allowed • Short response and extended response questions based on the core of the syllabus • 90 marks total • 40% of IB Math SL score Friday, May 14, 2014 (AM) – Paper 2 • 1.5 hours • Calculator allowed • Short response and extended response questions based on the core of the syllabus • 90 marks total • 40% of IB Math SL score Portfolio (Internal Assessment) • Completed throughout the academic year • 1 written papers (students investigate their OWN topic) • 20 marks total • 20% of IB Math SL score

  7. TESTS, QUIZZES, GRADED ASSIGNMENTS and PORTFOLIO/PROJECT Quizzes - We will try to have a quiz every two weeks. They may be of the following form • HW Quiz – problems taken directly from homework • Short answer or Explanation • Quickie Quiz Tests - Periodically we will have tests, 2 or 3 a trimester. You will be informed in advance. If you score below an 80%, you may take a retest (within 2 weeks) to improve your grade. The highest grade you can receive on a retest is an 80. There are NO retakes on quizzes. Homework/PQs Graded Assignments – Throughout the year you will be given sets of problems, computer or calculator activities which will be evaluated in a more traditional way. Point values for each assignment will be given when the assignment is made. A 10% late fee will be applied for each day late. Portfolio/Project - We will have a portfolio/project each trimester.
