  1. Healthy Eating Ditch the idea that healthy food should only induce a sigh and be tasteless. Although a more recent trend in the United States, reportedly in North African culture women have been using apple cider vinegar to achieve weight loss for generations” and men (bodybuilders) are said to use it for purported rapid results before competitions ( 8 ). Despite being one of the most popular foods for dropping the pounds, clinical trials have not been done to validate this claim. Earlier this year, The Times Magazine gave its cover to a long piece based on Michael Moss's about-to- be-best-selling book, Salt Sugar Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us. Hitting bookshelves rprotein at about the same time was the former Times reporter Melanie Warner's Pandora's Lunchbox: How Processed Food Took Over the American Meal, which addresses more or less the same theme. Despite the best efforts of a small army of wholesome-food heroes, there is no reasonable scenario under which these foods could become cheap and plentiful enough to serve as the core diet for most of the obese population—even in the unlikely case that your typical junk-food eater would be willing and able to break lifelong habits to embrace kale and yellow beets. It wasn't until the past 40-50 years that poor fat was suddenly vilified (after a few scientific leaps of faith with no real evidence to back it up), which is why every healthy” food these days is low fat” or fat free!” Not surprisingly, our country is fatter and more unhealthy than ever, and yet people still avoid fat at all costs and consume more healthy whole grains!” (ugh). The findings from this survey indicate that in relation to the consumption of vegetables, less than 10% of the population aged 51 years and over met the recommended target of five serves of healthy food vegetables daily (5.5 serves for men aged 51-70 years).16 The proportion of the general adult population that attained the recommended intake for the number of vegetables was even lower.
