  2. Objective, Essential Question, and Product • We will identify different ways to deal with conflict. • EQ: What are some different ways that we might address conflict as it arises? • I will discuss how different scenarios of conflict might be dealt with.

  4. Rules for Training • Participation is crucial • No wrong/stupid answers • Respect one another • No talking while others talk, • No rude comments or noises • Wait until you’re called upon

  16. Definition of “Conflict Resolution” • Together, the term “conflict resolution” mean the act of fixing or solving a problem where two different viewpoints are “clashing” or fighting

  17. Conflict occurs when… • Ideas are different, making it difficult to find middle ground • Each side wants to make sure that the other side understands their viewpoint • Ideas are almost direct opposite and each side BELIEVES in their side strongly

  18. Conflict occurs when… • Beliefs are supported by EMOTION; tensions in a fight, battle or discussion get high • High tension can lead to insecurity or lowered self-esteem > negative actions • Negative action leads to negative reaction and before you know it…

Activity: Situations of Conflict • Activity Sheet p. 7 (Working in Divided groups of 3 or 4) • You will be assigned one of the situations and you are to play out that situation • Role Playing Rules: • Be Respectful • No Cursing, No insults • When I say “Stop,” you freeze • When I say “Continue,” you continue until I say “Stop” again

  23. Conclusions • Conflict can be good but turn bad very quickly • Not inevitable, different perspectives will collide • Some conflict can be good, it helps people understand one another
