  7. Supporting the Library An L.P.S. is expected to help support the library by completing assigned tasks...

  8. Everyday, a library practice student should… • Push in chairs • Pick up trash • Shelve books and maintain rows • Clean areas that need cleaning • Dust

  9. Circulation Counter Duties If it is your day to work the circulation counter, then you should… • Count the money at BOTH the beginning and end of the period • Collect any money from printing • Check in/out and renew items • Take care of fines • Keep the area tidy and clean

  10. Maintain Assigned Bays Nobody wants to look at dusty shelves with random books thrown all over the place right?!?! • Shelve any newly returned books that belong in your section • Make sure your rows are in the correct order • Look behind your rows. Are there any books hiding back there??? • Pull out your books so they are closer to the edge and easy to see • Dusty rows are gross! Wipe them off when dusty

  11. Social Skills Being a L.T.S student helps us acquire valuable social skills like...

  12. Social Skills • Manners improve by getting in the habit of being polite to library users • Getting along and resolving problems between each other when we don’t agree • Patience is acquired when working with others • Smile more • Ms. D has your back

  13. Work Experience Being enrolled in library practice will help us in the future when we have real jobs

  14. Work Experience • Completing tasks is our responsibility • People don’t always get along. We get used to working with others who don’t think the same way as you do. • Acting professionally with library users is similar to working with customers! • Accuracy is more important than speed.

  15. Have Fun Some believe working in a place surrounded by lots of books would be boring. LEARNING is exciting. Only boring people are boring. Make new friends. Your time as a Library Tech Student will be filled with laughs and memories!

  16. Thank you! • Thank you Mr. McPhee at Northridge Academy High School for sharing Jamie’s powerpoint presentation with Reseda High School Library.
