Welcome to Webling Grade 6 Before we begin, please take this time to do the following… • Find your child’s seat, review the paperwork and complete the available forms. • Forms • Parent Handbook & 6th Grade Handbook • Parent Contact & Volunteer Form • Parent Questionnaire • Parent Notification p. 25 and p.27 in Pink Communication Folder • Green Signs: PlaceClorox Wipes, Paper Towel, Soaps, and Napkins in the designated areas around the classroom. • Other supplies can be put in desk or left at desk. • Cubbies will be assigned later.

About the Teacher • Quick Facts: • This is my fourth year teachingat Webling Elementary. • I was a 1st Grade teacher for three years. • Favorite subjects: Math and Science. • Graduated from UHM with Bachelors in Elementary Education. • I am in Army Reserves. • Teaching Philosophy: • I believe in lifelong learning. • Building a community of respect. • Students will learn in a safe and comfortable environment within our classroom. • Parent-Teacher Team.

  3. Expectations School & Classroom Rules Be Respectful Be Safe Be Responsible T.H.I.N.K. before you Speak T - is it true? H - is it helpful? I - is it inspiring? N - is it necessary? K - is it kind? Classroom Economy Students will be held accountable for their individual behaviors through the Classroom Economy. All students will assume a classroom job and will receive asalary. Their salary can be influenced by their behavior. Students will be able to use their salary to pay for certain rewards in the class. Cell Phone Policy • Once on campus should be turned off • Only used for contacting parents after school. • No use in classroom • Not a calculator • Can be taken away and given to the principal.

  5. Daily Homework • We don’t have planners available for purchase this year. This year we will be using a notebook in place of the planner. • Students will be held accountable for the completion of their homework. • Assignments that are not completed or not submitted will be highlighted. They will be crossed out once they’re completed. • Students will check-in their homework with me every morning. • Parent-signature is optional. • Meal-tracker notices and other VIP notices will be stapled in child’s binder.

  7. Classroom app for communication • Remind App: Remind is a free service that lets me send quick messages/reminders via text. Signing up for my messages on Remind is easy! Receive messages via text message Text “@mrsnish6” to the number 81010, and a confirmation text will be sent to you. That text thread will be where you’ll receive all my messages. • To unsubscribe, text “@LEAVE” in that text thread at any time. *Instructions can be found inside pink folder.

(Differentiated) • Reading: Wonders + Periodic Novel Studies • Writing: Wonders: Narrative, Expository, and Persuasive • Science: Scott Forsman • Social Studies: Harcourt • Music: Ms.Mattson • Art: Mrs. Maruishi • Physical Education: Mrs. Nishimoto • Guidance/Health: Mrs. Nishimoto • World Languages: Not offered Textbooks • Textbooks will stay in the classroom. • Students are allowed to bring home textbooks if they need it to complete an assignment at home. Textbooks should be returned ASAP.

Camp Erdman Chaperone Policies • You will be expected to refrain from drug, alcohol, and tobacco use for the duration of the trip. • A chaperone pair will be in charge of a group of 5 – 6 students that might not include their own child. • Another parent may be in charge of your child depending on the group. • A chaperone MUST notify a lead teacher if they ever need to leave their group. • A chaperone is expected to display professional behavior. • Parent and child need to be the same gender to ensure safety and supervision at all settings and times. February 24-25 Monday-Tuesday • Theme: Team Building • Cost: $75 per student; $35 for parent chaperones Fundraising • Tanioka’s Tickets • Students will be able to pay their way by selling 25 Tanioka’s Tickets. • In school: After school snacks • Donations welcomed

  10. 6th Gr. Graduation 2020 Wednesday, May 27th, 2020 • We are looking for parent volunteers to create a Graduation Committee: Graduation Chair, decoration, lei’s, gift, set-up, etc. • Parent planned and organized. • Teachers will hold first meeting with committee, then parent chairs will take over. • Teachers will be responsible for creating the program. • NEEDED: Baby pictures for Graduation Slideshow • Please send electronically.
