World-Class StudentsPrepared for College and Career • This is our mission and our promise to you! • Also, school counselors are meant to help all students in the areas of academic achievement, personal/social development and career development, ensuring today's students become the productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow. that’s you!

  5. So what does a guidance counselor do here? • Personal and Social Concerns • Academic Planning  • Course Selections •  Career and Technical Education - Clusters/Pathways •  Graduation Plans • Career Exploration • University , Community, and Technical College Information • College Financing and Career Tech Scholarship Information Fancy version: Plain old English version: • Help with family or friend problems • Help you decide on classes that fit you best • Help you plan classes so you graduate when you want • Assist you while you try out different kinds of classes and see which ones are your strengths • Help you decide what you want to do after high school and how to pay for it!

  6. Guidance Counselor Myths! • My guidance counselor is too busy to care about talking to me about school problems or my grades… • If the counselor wants to talk to me, then I must be in trouble! • The counselor is just going to tell everyone about my problems, so I’ll just not tell anyone. • If I go talk to the counselor then I am crazy and there is something wrong with me… • The counselor will just boss me around and yell at me for messing up…. • NONE OF THESE THINGS ARE TRUE!

  7. Ok, Cool. So how do I see the guidance counselor? • If you want to talk or get more info about the things we already discussed contact me or stop by to see when I can meet with you- during a time that is best for your schedule • A teacher, parent or friend may notice you could benefit from meeting with a guidance counselor, don’t be mad! They are looking out for you! I have referral forms for teachers
