VIII . You shall not steal.

Or only ten suggestions

Modern Version of the Commandment:

You shall not steal: money, posessions, hours from your employer, taxes, music, DVDs, materials, books, ideas, people, identity of others, etc.

You shall not shoplifting;

You shall not do online theft;

You shoud not cheat on tests, etc.

Or only ten suggestions

God gives us talents, resources and relationships that we are stewards over.

We are responsible to care for them and develop them.

Because of jealousy and greed, people are tempted to steal what other people have been given in order to make themselves feel more important.

Or only ten suggestions

God has charged us to take care of the resources entrusted in our care.

Never are we to steal or to covet other people’s things or money.

Or only ten suggestions

Most people would say stealing is wrong and that they don’t steal.

But how many people have hidden money so they don’t have to pay taxes?

How many have downloaded an mp3 or a movie without paying the artist?

Is stealing still wrong if everyone else is doing it?

Don t be a thief

DON’T BE A THIEF

The commandment expanded

THE COMMANDMENT EXPANDED

  • 2 “If a thief is caught breaking in at night and is struck a fatal blow, the defender is not guilty of bloodshed; but if it happens after sunrise, the defender is guilty of bloodshed. “Anyone who steals must certainly make restitution, but if they have nothing, they must be sold to pay for their theft. 4 If the stolen animal is found alive in their possession—whether ox or donkey or sheep—they must pay back double. (Ex. 22:2-3)

The commandment by jesus

THE COMMANDMENT BY JESUS

  • You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother.’ ” (Mark 10:19)

The commandment by paul

THE COMMANDMENT BY PAUL

  • The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Romans 13:9 )

The commandment by paul1

THE COMMANDMENT BY PAUL

  • 28Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need. (Ephesians 4:28)

Stealing is wrong

Stealing is wrong

Stealing is wrong because it is actually coveting. So you are breaking two commandments.“

If one is content with what God has given, how can one become a thief?

Before one is a thief, he/ she has to covet something that does not belong to him/her.

Keep your heart free from wanting other people's possessions by resting in God's provision, and you won't be tempted to steal.

X. You shall never want what belongs to someone else.

17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

Modern Version:

BE CONTENT WITH WHAT YOU HAVE.

Many suffer from a spiritual illness known as “GREED.”

They compete to keep up with other people in a game with no end because there will always be someone out there with more than them.

But life has more meaning than the accumulation of material possessions.

Alternatives to not falling into temptation to steal or covet other peoples things

ALTERNATIVES TO NOT FALLING INTO TEMPTATION TO STEAL OR COVET OTHER PEOPLES’ THINGS

1 work with your own hands

1. WORKWITH YOUR OWN HANDS

  • 28Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need. (Ephesians 4:28)

God invented work

GOD INVENTED WORK

  • 15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.

    (Gen. 2 :15)

2 know you were not made to fret

2. KNOW YOU WERE NOT MADE TO FRET

  • 25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? 28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.

  • 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Mat. 6:25-34)

3 trust god supplies your needs

3. TRUST GOD SUPPLIES YOUR NEEDS

  • “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:19)
