Introduction to CPD Quality Assurance • Learning Outcomes • The learner will identify the basic elements of QA for the purpose of CPD in line with the advantages for systemic, institutional and target beneficiary group(s) • Teaching Activity • Introduce the principles of QA in educational and CPD settings for training of trainers, with a focus on systemic, institutional and target beneficiary group(s) (presentation and open discussion) • Learning Activity • Identify needs for the inclusion of QA into the CPD cycle (planning, designing, implementing and evaluating QA outcomes and impacts in CPD settings) 1

Introduction to CPD Quality Assurance • Introduction to Topic • Quality assurance focuses on a systematic approach to improvement that recognises and responds to the needs and expectations of all stakeholders in the enterprise. • Quality assurance processes support staff, enabling them to provide an efficient and effective service that is appropriately focused on the needs of clients and customers. • Quality assurance is about continuous improvement. 3

Introduction to CPD Quality Assurance • Basic Elements • The Assessment System is a controlled and ordered process designed to ensure that assessment decisions made in relation to many individuals, by many assessors, in many situations are consistent, fair, valid and reliable. • The assessment process is the agreed series of steps that the candidate undertakes within the enrolment, assessment, recording and reporting cycle. The process must not only suit the needs of all stakeholders. It must also be simple to run and cost-effective. • 2 5

Introduction to CPD Quality Assurance • Basic Elements (continuation) • The assessors: The competence of people carrying out the assessment is a critical factor in ensuring that assessment is effective and meets the required quality criteria. • Collecting the evidence: Assessors are required to collect evidence that is drawn from a range of sources(documents, observations, interviews, etc.) • Making the judgement: Establishing ways to improve the validity and reliability of assessment judgements is the goal of a quality assured assessment system. 6

Introduction to CPD Quality Assurance • Advantages of QA for CPD: Systemic Level • Receiving feedback and to take action as a consequence of the feedback, setting systemic priorities, and disseminating good practices • Identify systemic needs and resources • Development and implementation of systemic action planning • Address staff needs for ongoing professional development and enhance their professionalism through regulation, self-regulation, and self-organized development 7

Introduction to CPD Quality Assurance • Advantages of QA for CPD: Institutional Level • Conduct institutional systematic inquiry into the nature and impact of the work of ToT and Trainers • Contribution to the ongoing processes of assurance and enhancement of quality in the work of the institution, its teaching, learning, student assessment, evaluation and learner outcomes • Improving, developing and ensuring the quality of the work undertaken at the highest level, and that the processes for this exist in the training institution are operating effectively, and are positively impacting on the quality of the work undertaken. 8

Introduction to CPD Quality Assurance • Advantages of QA for CPD: Target Group Level • Developing collaborative and collegial practices and improve morale and motivation of the target group • identifying areas of common interest of the target group, linking individual members of training staff or with relevant internal and external resources and to meet identified resource needs for CPD • Ensuring that the CPD is aligned not only to its own aims, objectives and intended learning outcomes, but are also aligned to the strategic direction of the stakeholders. 9
