  8. Professional Reputation and Certification • Professional consultants are committed to consulting as a career: it’s not just a way to earn money between other jobs. • Anyone can call him/herself a consultant, but reputation is everything. • The Certified Management Consultant (CMC) designation is ensconced in provincial legislation across Canada. • Becoming a CMC-Canada member shows your commitment to the management consulting profession as well as your own personal branding. cmc-canada.ca

  9. Professional reputation • Since a consultant's most valuable asset is his or her reputation, successful consultants have a strong sense of ethics. • CMC-Canada requires its members to abide by its Universal Code of Professional Conduct. This Code protects the client, the profession, other members, and the public. • The CMC designation unites truly professional consultants under one standard of ethics and creates unified standards of practice. cmc-canada.ca

  10. Global Recognition • CMC-Canada membership opens up a world of networking, professional developmentand education, and industry trend analysis, but mainly it’s made up by over 3,000 fellow professional Canadian management consultants with a shared identity and a desire for success. • The CMC is the only professional management consulting designation with recognition in over 50 countries worldwide. • As global markets become the norm, internationally-recognized certifications are more important than ever to one’s professional career. cmc-canada.ca

  11. I’m Certified • The CMC designation is one way that consulting professionals can differentiate themselves from the masses. Earning your designation can be done through three streams, based on individual experience. The graphic below summarizes the ‘entry’ stream. Details on the ‘experienced’ and ‘executive’ streams can be found at cmc-canada.ca cmc-canada.ca

  12. I’m Curious (Sample career paths) • For those with no previous consulting experience, the most popular entry point to the profession is by joining a medium/large professional services firm. • Many individuals enter through a specialist firm – either a functional (IT, HR, Operations, etc.) or industry-specific firm. • Small specialty consulting firms are boutiques that have a tighter focus by function or industry. cmc-canada.ca

  13. cmc-canada.ca Sample Career Paths • Larger firms typically are broad-based in their offerings and have an internal structured training and development program. They are a great entry point for those new to the profession. Consultants can progress through four or five principal ranks during their career. • After working for several years in a larger consulting firm, many individuals establish their own practice – independent and medium-sized firms. • Consulting as a career offers many opportunities to satisfy a wide range of career aspirations.

  14. I’m Interested • If this describes who you are and the type of career you would thrive in, we suggest you explore management consulting as a career option. • To learn more about how you can become a CMC-Canada member and Certified Management Consultant, visit cmc-canada.ca or call 416.860.1515. cmc-canada.ca
