  4. What is the form of government in your country? Who is your leader? • In our country we practice Democracy (“a form of government in which the power is held by citizens.”) There are many forms of Democracy. Here in Canada we use representative democracy (where the people rule in by number of votes, an elected representative to support their opinions and beliefs in our government.) The leader of our Country (Canada) is Steven Harper from the Conservative party, the leader of our Province (Ontario), is Dalton Mcguinty from the Liberal party. The leader for our Municipality (Simcoe North) is Garfield Dunlop from the Conservative party. The Representation of the Queen in our government is the Governor General, Michaëlle Jean. In our Government we have 4 main parties plus independents. We have the Conservatives, the Liberals, the New Democratic Party (NDP) and the Green Party.

  5. What is your first language? • My first language is English, second is French and my native language of Inuktitut is my third language. I learnt English from speaking it at home with my family and in school we have English class to practice our vowels and comprehension. At school we would have French class as well and would learn how to speak French learning all the verbs and comprehension tools to speak French. I learnt how to speak Inuktitut from spending time with my grandma and when I spent a year in Nunavut, the newest part of the Arctic Circle, where I have many family members that speak the language and the school where they have Inuktitut class that you read write and speak the language.

  6. French Canadian Pea Soup • 1 lb Dried Peas,1/4 cup grated Carrots, 8 cups of Water ,1/4 cup fresh chopped Parsley, 1/2 lb Salt Pork (all in one piece),1 small Bay leaf,1 large Onion chopped ,1 tsp dried Savory,1/2 cup chopped Celery • Salt and Pepper to taste Wash and sort peas; soak in cold water overnight. Drain and place in a large pot; add water, parsley, salt pork, onion, celery, carrots, parsley, bay leaf, savory and 1 tsp salt. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer until peas are very tender, about 2 hours, adding more water if needed.Remove salt pork; chop and return to soup. Discard bay leaf. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Makes 8 servingsVariations: Newfoundland Pea Soup is very similar, but usually includes more vegetables such as diced turnips and carrots, and is often topped with small dumplings. This soup is very good reheated. The most authentic version of Quebec's soupe aux pois uses whole yellow peas, with salt pork and herbs for flavor. After cooking, the pork is usually chopped and returned to the soup, or sometimes removed to slice thinly and served separately. Instead of fresh or dried herbs, herbes salees (herbs preserved with salt) are often used; they are available commercially or made at home. Pea soup remains a popular dish in restaurants where tourists enjoy a true taste of old Quebec. In some variations, a little garlic, leeks, other vegetables or a ham bone are added for flavor. For a thicker consistency (though this is not traditional) a cup or two of cooked peas can be pureed then returned to the soup.
